Description

In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the Earth's surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.

The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside. You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised underground. Having never ventured beyond the city limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat.

Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind. But what if the real threat comes from within?

Metro 2033 Redux is the definitive version of the cult classic ‘Metro 2033’, rebuilt in the latest and greatest iteration of the 4A Engine for Next Gen. Fans of the original game will find the unique world of Metro transformed with incredible lighting, physics and dynamic weather effects. Newcomers will get the chance to experience one of the finest story-driven shooters of all time; an epic adventure combining gripping survival horror, exploration and tactical combat and stealth.

All the gameplay improvements and features from the acclaimed sequel ‘Metro: Last Light’ have been transferred to Metro 2033 Redux – superior AI, controls, animation, weapon handling and many more – to create a thrilling experience for newcomers and veterans alike. With two unique play-styles, and the legendary Ranger Mode included, Metro 2033 Redux offers hours of AAA gameplay for an incredible price.
  • Immerse yourself in the Moscow Metro - witness one of the most atmospheric worlds in gaming brought to life with stunning next-gen visuals at 60FPS. Brave the horrors of the Russian apocalypse - equip your gasmask and an arsenal of hand-made weaponry as you face the threat of deadly mutants, human foes, and the terrifying environment itself
  • Rebuilt and Remastered for next-gen - this is no mere "HD port." Metro 2033 has been rebuilt in the vastly improved Last Light engine and gameplay framework, to create the definitive version of the cult classic that fans and newcomers alike can enjoy
  • Two unique Play Styles: "Spartan" and "Survival" - approach the game as a slow-burn Survival Horror, or tackle it with the combat skills of a Spartan Ranger in these two unique modes
  • The legendary Ranger Mode returns - dare you play the fearsome Ranger Mode? No HUD, UI, deadlier combat and limited resources combine to create the ultimate immersive experience.

Currently Cannot Get the Game to Run

Everything was running fine a few months ago when I played it. I recently upgraded my monitor to a 1440p 144hz monitor, and returned to try some resolutions to see the difference in game, and the problems started. I managed to get 1440p resolution running again on the Dead City mission, dialed down the graphical quality as I was getting sub-60fps. I dropped down to Medium settings and was at about 90fps; then the game shat itself. I can't even get the intro menu screen to load so that I can put things to Very High and just play the game at 60fps and below as I suspect this is one of those games (like Skyrim) that if you try to increase your frame beyond 60fps, the game engine falls to pieces. Anyway, 1-star vote until I get this running. And it's not just me: this game is--I have just found out--infamously buggy and crashy. I have been PC gaming since '97 and I cannot remember a game that has crashed this much. I feel like I'm back in the 90s, actually, trying to get this working--like I'm on a Windows 95 machine without the right drivers or some other problem that used to arise during the Wild West era of PC game development. This game is just as fickle, it seems.

Short Game with a Good Story

I thought it was a pretty good game myself, played through it once, its a fairly short game, I'd say I finished it in roughly 8 hours or so, its great if you are looking for something to burn through over a couple of days. As far as the story line goes, I thought it was an intriguing one, with a couple of different endings, I only attained the default ending you get if you aren't trying to get the other. To attain the other ending you essentially make the game harder for yourself, knocking out enemies instead of killing them type stuff. A quick google search provides a better explanation, but that's essentially the difference. The Story itself is essentially you are living in a time period after war has destroyed the world in metro systems underneath the cities in Russia, and as result of this war you are fighting mutated monstrosities for survival in this new world. There are many points I'm leaving out because they will give too much of the story otherwise, and its too good to give it away without experiencing it for yourself. Game play itself is comparable to most FPS games, I myself don't play a lot of them though so don't quote me on that. I can say however that for the most part it is pretty intuitive and the controls are not overly complex. On the harder difficulties (which don't play those until you've played through a normal setting some first so you can learn the controls) it removes a lot of the HUD, which normally isn't a problem, and I actually found it makes the game more of a challenge in a good way, except for the fact that you will have no idea at all of how much ammo you have, not just what you have in the clip, but total amount as well. Which makes it much harder, especially when you have to choose between weapons and you are unsure as to how much ammo you have for either weapon. All in all its a good game, would I pay $20 dollars for it, probably not, but if you catch it on any sort of sale I would say its well worth the money spent.

exacting revenge

THE GAME MAKES YOU PERFORM MANY TASKS LATER ON IN AN EXACT WAY OR YOU DIE. NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR ERROR EVEN ON EASY. I HAD TO WATCH OTHER FOLKS VIDEOS TO GAIN ANY INSIGHT AND EVEN THEN I FOUND UNLESS I PLAYED EXACTLY LIKE THEM I COULD NOT FINISH TEH LEVEL.

Mediocre.

I expected a on-rail shooter with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-like setting, the latter was true but the gameplay consisted of forced and badly designed stealth segments which ultimately made me drop the game altogether. Probably worth a playthrough on easy mode for the story.

Redux is really bad.

The graphics are terrible, the immersion is broken, and... IT'S PRICIER! The worst Metro game. At least Last Light and its Redux are more enjoyable, and not a soulless piece of trash. Please GOG, add the Original at a lower price.
