The original Metro 2033 was pulled from sale when the Redux version was released but as usual with this kind of thing it's not a clear cut improvement. Features from the sequel were backported, stealth mechanics were heavily changed, enemy placement and patrol routes changed, scripted sequences were altered, and so on. It's a very different experience. If the publisher still insists on not selling the original Metro 2033, I hope it could at least be added as a bonus with purchases of Metro 2033 Redux, as GOG has done for other games. People who want to experience original PC version of this game are currently forced to resort to dodgy resellers of old Steam keys, or piracy.

Description

OG METRO LETS GO!!!

I'm so happy the original metro is back on GOG I've played the redux and while it may look nicer graphicly they also changed way to many things on the gameplay side of things that I didn't like and had to over look to just get a glimpse of the original game that I fell in love with was an Instance buy

i am soo happy that 4 a games finally put the ogs of metro 2033 and metro last light on gog, there is nothing better then waking up and seeing that 4a games put the ogs back on gog what a time to be alive in 2026

Amazing relisting

I am beyond hyped to see that the original Metro 2033 is listed for sale again, just note that GOG Galaxy appears to interfeare with launching the game, so launch directly from the .exe in the folder! Also make sure even on AMD GPUs you have legacy PhysX Drivers installed!

Good, warts and all, but adjust FOV!

It plays like the original was meant to be played, but do yourself a favour if you play it on a modern screen (ESPECIALLY IF IT'S ULTRAWIDE) and go into the game folder and adjust the FOV setting in the user.cfg file to at least 65. The default is 45 and there is no way to change it from the game settings, and it makes it feel like you're playing as someone who lost vision in one eye. Other than that it is the original Metro 2033 experience, except with the Ranger mode difficulty settings and without the crashes and most of the bugs, which means you get a lot more loading screens, gunplay that feels a lot more stiff than in the Redux version, levels that are more linear, fewer weapons and weapon customization, worse animations, stealth that is much more unforgiving, much tighter and tougher resource management, but also a bit more atmosphere and depressing vibes than the Redux version. With that in mind it is a genuinely different experience from the Redux version, a gloomier, rougher, more depressing, but also far less convenient and accommodating one, and I, for one, am glad that is once again available for purchase. I still have my Steam copy of the original, but bought it here again to support the preservation efforts!

Works now!

Seems that after the updates GOG has implemented and using the repair option in the installation settings, the game works butter smooth now. Love the world of Metro.
