Good action game

Looks pretty nice, cool settings and great gunplay but repetitive and with a rather dull AI.

Mafia 3 or Moorhuhn 3D?

Do you like games comparable with Moorhuhn? Then buy this not good title but beware because now you' re the masochistic Moorhuhn! I am trying hard to beat this game, but I get the hang of it because it is becoming a roguelike due to dozens and dozens of deaths. This is the first game I really got migraine attacks. It is more work than fun. The difficulty level is often much too hard and I am playing shooters since the beginning of the computer technology. Fortunately I only bought the normal version and not the more expensive edition or one of the DLCs. ;-) Keep it! I think, the Mafia must have placed some programmers into a room with drawn weapons to accomplish this game. Awful game mechanics in this third mafia title in combination with being grasping to offer an optional in mission savegame feature. It's a shame because the artwork and atmosphere is awesome. And in opposition to other reviewers I also like the setting. Often it is fun cruising around between the missions to admire the landscape. The car models are nice. The a.i. behaviour of some other road users who are crossing your line can be absolutely nerve killing. Police chases in the mission are pure horror because they are trying to catch you directly glued on your rear bumper. And not only one car was pinned there to shoot on your wheels. One time I felt into a river with my car, I got out of the car and after that I was directly attacked and killed by an alligator which must have been a disguised undercover agent of the police. And the big brother is everywhere like the endless waves of capos especially when some of them are calling for reinforcement again and again. In case of an alarm big brother always knows exactly where you are. They are coming from everywhere to eat you!

Not what I was expecting

It feels more like a console port in every way! Nice music, fine story, but it's a port - I hate ports! Game could be something but on the very first mission you can bump into another car without any consequences. During missions it's always the same stages: do/go/drive, kill/take, kill more/take another, get back and kill another ones. Good that there is a lot of sotry telling intros otherwise you should kill more or better yet, drive to the other side of the town... I'm not happy with this purchase but heck, was on sale and the music is very good!

I had a good time

This is the only game where I actually stayed in the car and listened to the music, that didn't even happen in Vice City. Don't confuse this game with the GTA series, even if this time the devs got a lot more "inspiration" from it than in the previous games. Sure, not everything is great, sometimes the AI is just hillarious (also justice is blind and so is the police), the "cause damage" missions can get a bit repetitive and I still don't know what to do with my 250 spare fuses (after unlocking all surveillance sections). Especially in the beginning I was impressed by the story telling, also that they didn't display every white guy in the game as racist, even the Duvall guy on the radio seemed quite normal, talking about drug problems and such things (that changed later very much). In the end, the whole racicm theme had no big influence on the game, it's a classical revenge story. The gameplay is solid, nothing fancy. Being able to only carry 2 guns was quite limitating however, I nevre used the big equipment or small machine guns because that means I could not bring the silent ones. And I wished we had a garage like in almost all other games. Boats are almost useless except for a few occasions. Driving trucks through the city ... meh. But be honest: In how many other open world games can you be eaten by an aligator? They could certainly have done better, but they did more than ok.

Better than expected

First of all I seriously thought this game wouldn't be a whole lot of fun. One can read a lot of shade that reviewers and people throw on it because it is not a real Mafia game and they might be right about it. Thing is, I never played the original game or Part 2, therefore I can't really compare to those and look at this as a "single" game. The story is okay, a good start, long middle section, intense ending. What I liked is that the protagonist, Lincon Clay, isn't f** around and keeps his priorities straight up to the end (so therefore no long talks with the supposidly evil people etc.). Endings are different, all are okay, non is really the best or the worst. Another thing that stood out for me were the facial animations for the cutscenes which are some of the best I have seen in a long while, whereas the graphics itsself are varing from "good" to "what year is it". Sometimes a lot of details on the textures is missing and makes the game look like 2010, not 2016. On the other hand vegitation, cars and the lights look good and give the game a nice overall look. Performance was good most of the time, but in downtown when going with 100+ mph/kmh frames started to drop. Nothing to serious, but it was definitly noticable (from around 60 to 40 and therefore out of FreeSync range for my monitor). Would have been nice if not, but okay. Gameplay is solid, but nothing outstanding. The choice of weapons is good, handling is made nicely. The stealth mechanics is okay and can give some good aspect. Most of the gadget you get are a bit useless in my eyes, I mostly used the throwing knives (very stealthy) and granades and ignored most of the rest. One big pile of gargabe is the AI. It isn't any good, you can pull such easy tricks on them and they won't notice that you just killed a guy literally right behind them with a headshot. So don't expect super sneaky moves. All in all a good game, with definit flawes, maybe just not for the fans. I would recommed buying in a sale.
