IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator DEMO is available here.

A brutal dieselpunk heavy-artillery simulator where you dominate the battlefield through a colossal war machine. Every lever, every dial, and every shot is under your control. High Command may send its orders, but the chain of command ends at your fingertips. They don't carry consequences. You do, Operator. MAKE EVERY SHOT COUNT.

The teleprinters are calibrated to monitor local radio traffic. One delivers TOP-PRIORITY directives from High Command. The other relays direct calls from the frontline. Remember: every piece of information can determine the success of the entire operation.

Transform intelligence reports into a battle plan, get aerial photos that reveal the outcome of your actions, and watch your barrels reshape the landscape. The map isn't here just for measurements. It's also your window to the battlefield. Make no mistake. You can move the markers, but the scars remain.

Hammer the measurements, crank the numbers, and watch the ballistic calculator grind toward firing solutions. Drive the charges higher to blast shells across the horizon, or dial it back to arc them deliberately into enemy emplacements.

Beware: the machine may fail. You must not.

Breach bunkers with armor-piercing rounds, screen friendly withdrawals with smoke, and ████ █████████ with phosgene gas. It never happened if there are no witnesses. Every shell is forged for a single purpose, and whatever you choose will echo across the battlefield long after the smoke clears.

Haul the elevation wheel and watch the guns climb under your command. Match it with the exact propellant charge, or a surgical strike will turn into an avoidable mess. Precision is everything because neither flawless paperwork nor the finest propaganda will erase your guilt.

Drag the heavy lever and feel the entire structure shudder beneath your feet. A machine like IRON NEST doesn't spin on a whim. It takes time to swing that much iron with grace. Skilled Operators use that time to handle other tasks. After all, the coffee machine on your desk is there for a reason.

Pull the trigger, and let thousands of tons of machinery answer your call. Feel the turret recoil and watch the frontline crumble under the weight of steel. Once the dust settles, only silence remains, hanging heavy in the air, and the moment new orders arrive, it all begins again.

Setting

The campaign is set in alternate-history Spain in the late 1920s, on the brink of a civil war. In this timeline, the monarchy still holds power, and a republican uprising is spreading across the country.

The Team

IRON NEST is a two-person passion project from Nick Talmers (development) and Dominik Latos (propaganda). With 20+ years of combined experience and a lifelong obsession with artillery, interwar machinery, and dieselpunk, we're building the game we've wanted to play for years.

Nick has dreamed of IRON NEST for over a decade, and after meeting through developer-publisher collaborations, we decided it was time to bring this heavy spider-turret simulator, dripping with steel and power, to life.

Acknowledgements

The response has exceeded our wildest expectations. Thank you (truly) for every wishlist, message, and bit of support. It means even more because Heavy Turret Simulator is just the first step in the IRON NEST universe.

IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator is a first-person heavy-artillery experience that blends tactical problem-solving, complex war-machine management, and strategic decision-making into a genre of its own. The inspirations behind the game range from 1990s anime and Cannon Fodder to Nick’s passion for engineering and artillery. Also, we would like to acknowledge PVKK, which, in our view, helped shape the genre in which IRON NEST proudly stands.

Really promising

PLEASE read the short note at the very bottom of my review regarding some important information. Original post: After completing several missions, I can confirm that the game is awesome. When it was announced, the game seemed pretty complex to me, but after finishing the first mission, I can say that the game explains very clearly how to play. You just have to read the instructions carefully at each step. The game really feels very comprehensive, covering every step—from the message giving you instructions all the way to the shot. It’s all very immersive. The game seems to pay great attention to detail. I hope the upcoming missions will be even more comprehensive and varied. The graphics are pretty good (even though, by default, the game isn’t configured with the right resolution or graphics settings). But I really like the art style. In short, I highly recommend it. PS: There's a cat ❤️ EDIT: The game won’t be updated at the same time as on Steam. But the studio has promised me (and has, in fact, already released the first major update, which includes everything Steam received) that the game will continue to receive updates. This delay is due to the fact that it takes between 1 and 2 days to remove Steam’s DRM layers with each update. Given that the studio consists of only two people (a sales representative and a developer), I think we can understand their situation. The studio therefore plans to release weekly updates, ideally (though we may sometimes have to wait longer, depending on the situation at the time). This means that updates will be less frequent, but more substantial each time. As always, I'll update this review as things develop. Thank you.

Way more fun than it sounds/looks.

So glad to see that even after all this time, talented devs find new ideas for games. The only comparison I can think of for this game, are the Submarine Sim games, where you look on the map and try to figure out where to shoot before something shoots you. This is a management game, inside a giant artillery spiderbot with massive guns. You have to ready your ammo, place icons on the map and then calculate where every enemy is and shoot them asap. It's a lot more fun and a lot more stressful than it sounds. Obviously this is a niche game, for a niche audience, but I can say for certain that it is VERY well made. Great music, sounds, atmosphere, controls and runs well. Remains to be seen how much content there is and how bad the difficulty will crush me. But so far (2-3 hours in), massive thumbs up. Support creative titles like this, they are the only thing making this failing industry worthwhile.

Excellent start; could use refinement

In some ways, Iron Nest reminds me of the game Radio Commander. Both games have the player essentially staring at a map with incomplete information, but using your surroundings to immerse you in the setting, and your task within it. The difference is, simply, everything else. While Radio Commander made the mistake of showing what it had under the hood (and how simple its simulation really was), Iron Nest doubles down on the illusion without really having much of a simulation to begin with. Units on the map don't move or fight unless scripted to do so. They do not generally shoot back at you, outside of extremely specific scripted situations. They don't take cover, or move out of danger, even if they just watched their buddies get lit up by napalm rounds. The wider world, in short, is a shooting range for artillery. This game only does one thing, but... damn does it do it well. The best moments in Iron Nest are when you're trying to cobble together intelligence to prepare for one crucial shot. Whether you're hitting a moving train, or trying to locate the counter artillery before it turns your titular nest into a scrapyard, these are the moments that hit hardest. Unfortunately, missions have a habit of dragging past that point, asking the player to make several more shots against static targets that are already revealed on the map. You can beat the hard part of a mission in the first 15 minutes, and be stuck for another hour mopping up the scraps. The developer is still working on content for this game, and there's a pretty clear direction to go from here. Future missions should be shorter, and rely more on calculation and planning. More spontaneous AI would also be much appreciated, even if it's limited in scope. The experience inside the nest is flawless. The animations are stellar, the sound design is beyond comparison, and the whole game is under 2 gb. The technical foundation is unlike anything else in its field. It just needs a little more focus.
