Instead, it leans into its old-school inspirations—think Gothic 1/2 or Risen—to deliver a dense, atmospheric RPG that rewards patience, curiosity, and a bit of stubbornness. Gameplay & Exploration The combat is better than I expected. Weapons don’t just look different—they feel different, and trying them out is genuinely fun. Timing matters, stamina matters, and getting the hang of an enemy’s pattern is a must if you want to survive. But the real star here is the world. Exploration is excellent. Every corner feels like it might hide something—a puzzle, a hidden cave, a deadly opponent, a forgotten shrine, or just a well-placed group of bandits camping in the woods. It’s packed with detail and environmental storytelling. The game gives off that perfect “the world goes on without you” vibe, and you’ll quickly learn that you’re not a hero. You’re just someone trying to make it—and that makes every victory feel earned. Nothing is marked out for you. You’ll need to actually read quests, check your journal, and talk to people. The quests themselves aren’t just filler—they feel like short stories, often branching, and grounded in the world’s lore. A Finite, Focused Experience One of the more interesting aspects is how finite everything feels. Enemies don’t respawn, traders don’t restock, and even the plants or ores you find are limited. At first, this can feel harsh—but it also adds a layer of weight to your decisions. Sure, I’d love if helmets had more stats or if there were a few more weapon types. But the approach still works. Instead of juggling loot or chasing perfect gear, you’re encouraged to play the actual game. Final Thoughts Drova: Forsaken Kin is a must-play if you’re a fan of Gothic and Risen. The world is harsh, but that’s what makes exploring it so rewarding. It’s not perfect, but it’s memorable—and that’s what matters.

Cool game with a big focus on exploration. Combat can be kinda tough at times, but if you play on the lowest difficulty, you can tweak how much damage you give/take — so pretty much anyone can enjoy it. The story’s alright, nothing groundbreaking, same with the puzzles — they’re fine, just not super memorable. If you liked the Gothic series or you’re into exploring cool worlds and getting rewarded for it, this one’s definitely worth checking out.

This is, hands down, one of the best RPGs I ever played (and I played most of them since Fallout 1 and BG 1 times). The storytelling, game mechanics, music and even the pixel graphics - all a perfect mix for me. The story and slow unearthing of Bygones history was very satisfactory and the game took all my free time until the ending. The length is just about right (not too long to loose interest) and you have second faction to play for in case it's too short for you. The combat mechanics are very well designed and work surprisingly well with the isometric pixel graphics. Character progression is well balanced - weak initally and without the overload of items, I was always cheering when I found a new weapon or when I finally discovered a new armor. Overall if you are RPG fan, this is 100% recommendation from me. Amazing homage to multi-faction Gothic series. Already looking for Drova 2 (I hope there is one).

An open world RPG that I can play on my potato! Quests, monsters, mysteries to unravel. I love it.

Pros: - Different char builds that meaningfully affect how you play. - Graphics are pixel art, but it's GORGEOUS pixel art. - I can pet a dog, a cat and even a sheep Cons: - No matter the build, you're really weak at first. - Stone monster pops out of nowhere and kills me in one shot. - Even the fucking dog steals from me. Veredict: Good game. It keeps kicking my ass, yet I come crawling back for more and slowly making progress. If that sounds like fun, this might be the game for you too.
