Superb artistic direction!

Really nice indie game, the idea of taking the iconography of old Disney animated films to create a survival horror adventure is brilliant. Really beautiful artistic direction and all hand-drawn! The game mechanics are those of an old school platform adventure (like Clock Tower, Heart of Darkness, Flashback...) you explore, solve puzzles and escape from enemies. The gameplay is good even if it is not perfect and smooth as in a triple A. Nothing that can ruin the experience, don't get me wrong, it is still an indie and did not have a budget of hundreds of millions of dollars. It is a very strong story and tells us about the condition of women at the beginning of the last century. Chris Darril, the author of the game, dedicated it to his deceased mother. It is a work with a strong and enterprising personality, which deserves your attention.

Disney Magic Meets Haunting Atmosphere

When I started playing Bye Sweet Carole, I was immediately struck by how stunning the game looks. From the very first moments, I felt like I had stepped into a classic Disney animated film. The hand-drawn art style is absolutely gorgeous, full of charm and personality. Every frame looks lovingly crafted, and I constantly caught myself admiring the visuals instead of rushing ahead. The platforming sections are solid, though not exceptional. The jump-and-run controls feel somewhat average — they get the job done, and they’re perfectly serviceable, but they’re not the game’s strongest aspect. Thankfully, they’re good enough to keep the experience enjoyable without becoming frustrating. What really captivated me, however, is the wonderfully eerie atmosphere. There’s a haunting, fairy-tale darkness beneath the beautiful surface that makes the world feel mysterious and tense. I especially enjoyed the stealth sequences where I had to hide from monsters in small hiding spots. Those moments genuinely made my heart race and added a layer of suspense that elevates the whole experience. As the game progresses, the gameplay gains some variety, even if diversity isn’t its greatest strength. Still, it evolves just enough to keep things interesting throughout the journey. For me, the true highlight of Bye Sweet Carole is its atmosphere. The combination of classic Disney-inspired visuals and outstanding voice acting creates something special. The performances bring emotional depth to the characters and enhance the cinematic feeling of the adventure. In the end, Bye Sweet Carole may not reinvent platforming mechanics, but it doesn’t need to. Its breathtaking art style, gripping atmosphere, and excellent voice work make it a memorable and enchanting experience that stayed with me long after I finished playing.

Bye!

Bye Sweet Carole is really pretty, but horrible writing kills any enjoyment for me. I really don't like to be lectured about politics without any sense of nuance. If you like it there are countless Youtube channels that do that for free.
