Players' stories
Since the version is Epic is playable offline, I got that one. The controls are quite simple, the focus is on the narration of the game, it has a neat atmosphere. The (full) soundtrack I bought on Bandcamp. The version that is offered on Steam misses many tracks. It would be nice to see this game on GOG for other players who don't like Epic.
The game is a work of art. It is a lot of fun to play, the gameplay is exciting at times, and at others it is relaxing, crazy! I would love to see it on GOG because we have more rights preserved with games we buy here.

Description

Bramble The Mountain King takes you on a gripping and unsettling journey through stunning environments. Take on the role of Olle, a young boy setting off to rescue his sister, kidnapped by a dreaded troll.

Not everything in Bramble is exactly how it seems - in this strange land with creatures big and small, you must be careful when to approach and when to hide. Many hungry and spiteful beasts lurk in these forests and caves. Watch your step....

Call upon the Spark of Courage, an enchanted fragment granting the gifts you need to endure the pitfalls and trials in your path. Defeat the horrid creatures you encounter in different and unique ways. Be warned, courage without kindness can take you down a dark path.

  • Adventure as Olle, a brave boy who sets off to rescue his sister.
  • A beautiful yet dangerous world to explore.
  • Encounter twisted, mythical creatures from Nordic folklore for epic-scale boss battles.
  • Tense, heart-pounding moments with hi-end visuals to match.

Grimms' Fairy Tales (The Game)

Excellent game inspired by the darker side of Nordic mythology. Fairly simple gameplay, a bit of puzzling, a bit of stealth, a bit of light platforming, but it's mostly the excellent environments you're playing for. Starts whymsically enough but don't be fooled though -- way too dark for children.

Worth every bit.

Story-driven Indie Horror Puzzler. I love this game and think it deserves 5 stars, but I wouldn't be being very objective. Look, I've bought this game multiple times, on multiple platforms, at a higher price than its sales price. You've got decent graphics, a lovely tale of brother and sister, dark horror elements, light platforming, light puzzles, etc. This game will run you 4-5 hours of enjoyment. I just ran though it again before giving this review. If you are a fan of cultural fairy tales packaged in a Little Nightmares-esque package I'm sure you'll enjoy this as much as me. The music hits just right, the emotional beats are wistful, melancholic, and hopeful -- delivered on que. It has much heart to it. It's not all roses, it does have some eurojank (personally this gives it charm in my eyes). The controls aren't perfect and some deaths/failures may be because of that, but don't let that dissuade you. Also, I would not consider this a game for kids as it deals with very dreadful topics, easily young adult or older. The atmosphere has a very 'original' Grimm fairy tales feel meets adventous exuberance, striving-through-adversity excitement to overcome the darkness in us all. I was able to run this on my secondary computer which is a well dressed potato running a decade old workstation graphics card not designed for gaming. Each chapter is well paced with an ending 'boss' of sorts. It rides that perfect line between light-hearted and unease. I really wish for more of this and if you can take it for what it is, I think you too would give it a star above 4.

Decent addition to the genre

Bramble is a twisted fairy tale with solid graphics and a very cinematic flare that slots nicely into the collection of macabre platformer/puzzle games. If you liked Limbo, Little Nightmares, Inside Story, or a Tale of two Brothers you'll feel right at home with this one. In many ways reminds me of the latter the most, though not really as poignant story-wise. Overall game-play is pretty simple, there's a few boss fights and a couple sections that might require a fair number of replays but overall it's pretty straightforward. The early game is simplistic enough to be considered a walking simulator for a good bit. It's a fairly short game and can be beaten in one or two sittings, which is fine since it doesn't overstay it's welcome.

Little Scandinavian Nightmares

I played this when it was on Game Pass, and have since bought it on sale elsewhere. One of my favorite small studio games of recent years. For those that have played Little Nightmares...this game plays similarly, but it's much better. Little Nightmares was dark without letup, Bramble gives you little moments of quiet beauty and hope... and then crushes you! It's more like a roller coaster ride.

Solid horror-ish narrative platformer

Scandinavian fairytale medley with lots of appearances of (for us) well known and in endless children's stories present creatures like Näcken, tomtar, irrbloss and trolls. Not at all a cheap "lets take some creatures from a mythology and make a game out of it" but a kind of balanced and i.m.o interesting and good take on the material. I think if you had pulled Näcken out of this game and into an old fairytale, he would not feel out of place there. In terms of polish it is not a 100% but it is easy to forgive it for that when it has so much charm and offers something kind of unique. A lot of variety in scenery, gameplay, mood and themes. Overall a solid game with surprisingly good boss fights. The skogsrå, the witch and the final boss are all great. Hopefully more games will be released by the studio!
