Blades of Fire DEMO is available here

The GOG release includes Version 2.0 of the game, featuring major updates and improvements, plus the Adventurer Pack, the Artbook, and the award-winning original soundtrack by Óscar Araujo.

Blades of Fire is a dark fantasy adventure built on a single, uncompromising idea:
Steel is Destiny.

You are  Aran de Lira, the last warrior capable of forging true steel in a world where metal turns to stone. Your journey is not about collecting weapons, but about forging them through intent, sacrifice, and consequence, and surviving long enough to master their weight.

Combat is deliberate and unforgiving. Every strike commits you. Every mistake costs you. Victory is earned through patience, positioning, and understanding both your enemy and the blade you forged to face them.

FORGE STEEL. SHAPE YOUR FATE.
At the heart of Blades of Fire lies a forging system that is not crafting — it is commitment.
Weapons are forged at the anvil through deliberate choices that permanently shape their behaviour, balance, and purpose. There is no endless loot. No disposable gear.
Every blade reflects:
•The materials you chose.
•The enemies you prepare to face.
•The kind of warrior you decide to become.
Because steel remembers.

COMBAT WITH WEIGHT AND CONSEQUENCE
Combat in Blades of Fire is methodical, grounded, and lethal.
•Timing, spacing, stamina, and defense matter more than aggression.
•Enemies punish recklessness and reward observation.
•Weapon choice is tactical, not cosmetic.
You do not overpower your foes. You outlast them.

A WORLD THAT REWARDS CURIOSITY
The world of Blades of Fire does not unfold through constant exposition.
Much of its history, myths, and meaning resides in Adso, Aran’s companion — a young, learned mindscholar with deep knowledge of the world and an eagerness to share it.

He writes down everything and speaks when spoken to.
•Story is discovered through dialogue and reading, not through cutscenes.
•Knowledge comes from interest, not obligation.
•The world reveals itself only to those who ask.

A GAME FOR PLAYERS WHO SEEK MASTERY
Blades of Fire is designed for players who value:
•Deliberate pacing.
•Meaningful progression.
•Difficulty rooted in understanding, not reflexes.
Power is not given. It is earned at the anvil.

VERSION 2.0 – CONTENT & IMPROVEMENTS (NOW AVAILABLE)
NEW CONTENT
•New Game Plus.
•New Challenge Level: Titanium
•New Weapon Parts & Skins (only available in New Game Plus)
•Elements Transmutation, which allows players to change material types.

This is not the typical Soulslike

This game is so original regarding the mechanicals around the crafting system, parry and stamina (you need to block in order to recover and trust me, after a couple of minutes make sense). The story and graphics are good. My only complain regarding this game is: The Devs are from Spain and the game doesnt have voices in spanish. Right now, I'm enjoying the gameplay. I hope in the future the devs will extend the game universe with others games or with some DLCs for this one. The resources farming remind me so much games like Monsters Hunters (in the good way and also with Pause option LOL).

EULA Alert

I was almost looking forward to this experience. Sadly I never got to actually play the game as I was greeted by a EULA screen. The EULA has two problem areas, revocable license and data collection. I understand and can accept that I don't own the IP, however if I pay for a game I do expect to own my copy of the game. I most assuredly won't waste a precious dollar on a game that can be taken away from me whenever a corporation decides it needs to flex its muscles. I also understand that in the internet error (you read that right) my data is already compromised and will be compromised all the days of my life. However, I don't see why I have to intentionally submit myself to data collection.

Demo Feedback

I only tried the demo. I couldn't fairly recommend this game. The MK is poorly supported. The Autolock is poorly implemented, even with autolock switch off it does switches even to really far/distant enemies. I loved the idea of the comabt, forge, and exploration. But the combat is far away from optimized, making the game hard to enjoy, sadly. I will consider buying the full game if they ever address the Autolock issue as a bare minimum. Try the demo before you buy (available in GOG).

God of Soulsvania

I bought this game on Steam and PS5 (before it appeared on GOG), and I probably will buy it on GOG to support MercurySteam team and to have it in library. It's a lower budget title and it sometimes shows, but there's plenty bang for the buck. Presentation is great, almost on par with God of War 2018 (minus the cinematic feel). The combat is unique (4 directions of attack, 3 types of damage, enemies with different resistances on specific parts of their bodies). When you get used to it, it's better than ok. The mechanic of crafting weapons by designing it from parts and smashing metal with hammer feels fresh. And the exploration is the main draw for me. No handholding, a lot of hidden treasures. Feeling of finding something hidden in area that I thoroughly searched some 30 hours earlier was surprisingly great. Some areas are locked so the player can return to previously visited areas after unlocking needed tool (as one would expect from the creators of Castlevania and Metroid games). If you like souls-lite, new God of War or metroidvanias, try it - there is a high chance that you'll like it. And this game deserves a lot bigger audience than it currently has. Edit: Aaaaand I bought it again...

Satisfying combat, unique mechanisms!

This is made by MercurySteam, the former RebelAct Studios, which means the same people behind Blade of Darkness deliver, again! It initially had been an Epic Store exclusive, until it recently released at Steam and ultimately, found its way to GoG apparently. I played the demo and it looks really sweet! The graphics are nice, the gore is good, there are also some destructible items around. Different weapons and weapon stances, ensure adaptability against different types of enemies. What troubled me though, is the fact that this game, is tailored around a gamepad (never like using it, am an old keyboard and mouse fanatic) and traditional controls, feel awkward, let alone difficult to execute, with keyboard and mouse. The worst offender, is lack of tutorial and explanation, around the forging system, which disappointed me much. And enemies being way more chaotic in movement or attack patterns, unlike blade of darkness. It deserves 5 stars, regardless! Despite it being beyond me and i will probably watch a full play video or something, i am seriously tempted to buy it at some point and play it all.
