I beautifully little gem, with a very nice stylized look that plays nicely into the gameplay mechanics and overall feeling of the game. Absolutely worth a playthrough if your looking for a beautiful example of storytelling.
A great storyteller that stays with you even after you finish the game. I felt much connected to the game while playing that many AAA titles fail to do today.
I finished Arise on Xbox, so while I can't speak to any technical aspects of the game on PC, I did find the story beautiful, compelling, and ultimately an agonizing experience. This is not a happy game. As I neared the last chapter, I came to believe that the game studio responsible HAD to be European because only someone whose lives were essentially good and upbeat could crave an experience like this. I recommend this to anyone who has told themselves recently, "I need a good cry."
Some platforming elements were a little clunky but the game is forgiving enough when you die. There were also some mechanics that I won't spoil here but I also haven't seen done in another title. When I thought they had run out of ideas, another neat mechanic would appear.
The developers should be proud of what they accomplished here.
You play as kind of a spirit of a dead old man reliving his life, full of love and tragedy. The game is a truly beautiful, lyrical, and imaginative platformer with simple puzzles. It has 10 levels, or life stages, each introducing new mechanics that metaphorically depict his life events and feelings. Gameplay is rather simple, but because of fixed camera it is sometimes difficult to see where you need to go or judge the jumps, so you will die a lot. Luckily, you immediately reappear nearby and can try again.
