It was one of the very first games I bought with my own money. The drawn box cover looked kind of weird for a game cover, but it was similar to covers of metal music CDs. I still remember the first encounter with the undead skeleton warriors (NVG night mission), and the desperate defense of a certain province, where the hillsides were covered with blood splatters after wave after wave of enemies storming my small force. I assume today it would be considered extremely clanky and simple, but it was my turn-based favorite alongside Final Liberation back in my teenage years.

This is absolute gem, but pretty much unknown to many. Post-apo turn-based strategy, where last pieces of humanity have to battle against mystical foes from legends - orcs, elves, dragons, etc... but! Dont expect fantasy setting... all of this is happening in modern age, so smash those orcs with your tanks and surprise those sneaky elves with coordinated artillery attack... Expect harsh difficulty, where you have to think about your strategy and try to preserve all your precious units, because you carry them to next scenarios and they also level up... ofc by liberating new areas you are collecting resources and you can research new technologies... and be on alert, the enemy can fight back any time... If I would call something definitely a Good Old Game, this is it... bring Spelcross back to life...

For those wondering what this game is, it's X-Com if instead of Aliens Earth gets Invaded by Extra-Dimensional Fantasy Evil Overlord. They even got Magic and the like. The other difference is Units are Squads rather than Individuals. Another case of "How did no one crib from this?".

Super game with a great storyline, strategic and tactical layer and in Polish. Game from Czech studio 9,5 / 10. I remember how much I had to combine to get a cd image of the game. The only one drawback was marking units, one at a time.

The nostalgia is powerful with this one, It is my first introduction to TBS games and to this day I never finished it, at the time I didn't understood a many things about the game mechanics it always managed to beat me. Now more than a decade later a more experienced me wants to try again to face my oldest challenge of finishing the game. For a very long time it was my favorite game, at one point even better than GTA (and that is a BIG say) Today installing this on modern PC's is way to hard and the cutscenes will not work and other problems, we need GOG's superpowers on this one!!!

One of the last DOS games. Yet the best ones. Also this can be described as the best slovak strategy ever made. Game had two parts tactical, similar to some UFO game with training, buying and research, second part of game had over 100 tough 1h-3hours missions (in slovak version). Game itself wasnt so hard, but Spellcross used an unusual, yet fair (which cant be said mostly about checkpoints) limited saving system which forces you to play every mission very carefuly or you risk fail of mission and playing whole mission again from beggining. Neverending fails is a main memory of most players, you will replay mission a lot especialy in first half of game, but its only way how to learn a way to survive Once you know all the tricks game becoming very tedious around last quarter of game. Final missions were oddly the easiests, end of game was cheap. Anyway, Spellsross was great game which main weakness was crazy lenght, slovak version takes at least one month of intensive gaming. What is so catchy about this game? Apocalyptic science fantasy story and cutscenes with briefings, for most of game you are keep getting very pesimistic news despite you are winning your missions, but not whole humanity. In its times Spellcross was quite dark game and in combination with hard strategy brought very unique experience. Its important to say that there are two very different versions of this game. The slovak DOS original (with czech dubbing, yes czech one, no slovak :) and later world version in english. English version had slightly better controls, sadly game was much shorter, easier with different, worse music soundtrack. Even if GOG will ever be able to release this game, which has a very low chance thanks to problem with rights for this game, Im affraid that only ripped english version will be on store.
This was the best non-Warhammer 40K Warhammer 40K-game to come out at the time. It surpassed them all, even final Liberation, and had some really good mechanics for putting pressure on the player. As the magic units slowly unfolded and it became obvious how important experience and upgrades were, the game just grew better. Seldom has a turn-based game instilled so much horror of the unknown. That one level with just the impossibly loud footsteeps ringing out from beyond the woods and therefore line of sight was just incredible. I would love to be able to finish this one some day.

This game is unique in many ways. Excelent story, game mechanisms, atmosphere. No other game has such an atmosphere. The game is hard. Really hard. And because it's turn-based, you have plenty of time to enjoy the fear of enemies, the silent sneaking, the sweating in tough battles, and the feeling of victory. It's like chess, but in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world with soldiers, orcs, wizards and magic, where the enemy always has the upper hand. It should be preserved for future generations.

I've heard a lot of good things about the game and it is made by Cauldron studio which was based in the Slovakia where I live. I would definitely like to give this game a try, seems very interesting, but have not got a chance to play it yet.

One of the best turnbased strategy games there is. I still play from time to time (old machine), if this game ever comes to GoG, it's a insta-buy. I have already bought it 4 times, so what's a 5th time anyway? (1 was lost in a move, 1 cd got too scratchy, lost another cd somewhere). Still have the manual too, interesting read.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
Metal Gear Solid HD CollectionFrom the critically acclaimed director, Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection offers a handful of the most popular Metal Gear Solid titles from the past in true HD for the first time ever. Featuring three complete games, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the HD Collection offers old and new fans a chance to experience the epic game play, design and storytelling of the MGS franchise. The "Metal Gear Solid (MGS)" series is the seminal work of Hideo Kojima, Japan's master game creator, and the progenitor of the stealth action game genre. The series has become a global phenomenon, with over 27 million copies sold worldwide. The player controls a secret agent from an elite special forces unit who is sent on solo sneaking missions through enemy installations, vast jungles, and sometimes even the thick of battle. Alone and surrounded by the enemy, even a special forces agent will find it tough to come out alive. But that is the secret behind the series' popularity-the cerebral challenge of figuring out how to avoid combat, and the thrill of sneaking through enemy territory undetected. The MGS series is also known for its storyline, which blends seamlessly with the gameplay. The scenarios are based on extensive research and incorporate the drama of actual developments in society. These elements have made MGS what it is today: a mature work of entertainment that transcends national borders and the confines of video games, and one of the leading products of the Japanese content business.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the PatriotsMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the final canonical Metal Gear game to feature Solid Snake as the main character. The gameplay of the previous games have been kept along with some new features, such as the ability to roll on your back and also to hide in bins scattered around the environment. Most of the story and the relationship between the characters are explained through cut-scenes with a considerable length, so knowledge of the prior games is recommended to fully understand the story. The game also features a complex multiplayer mode entitled Metal Gear Online with some original missions based on the stealth aspects of the single-player games.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake EaterMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the follow up to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It is the first prequel in the series, taking the series to the year 1964. The player takes the role as the series' original antagonist, Big Boss, then known as Naked Snake. MGS3 is the first game in the series to take place in a jungle. This unique setting created an opportunity for new mechanics. The player can adapt to the environment by swapping Snake's camouflage, hunt animals and gather plants for food. This iteration in the series introduced a new feature in which the player must apply medicine and perform medical procedures on Snake if he is damaged in combat. Apart from the survival themed features, the controls and gameplay of the game are very similar to Metal Gear Solid 2. Like other Metal Gear games, the focus is on stealth, but the player can go through the entire game like a shooter if they choose to. Throughout the game Snake acquires weapons of all types; non-lethal firearms, handguns, sniper rifles, machine guns, shotguns, sub-machine guns, and explosives. Metal Gear Solid 3 was the first game to implement the CQC (close quarters combat) system. CQC allowed Snake to beat enemies down to knock them out, or put them in a chokehold to knock them out, kill them, or and/or question them. Metal Gear Solid 3's health system required the player to occasionally pause the game and treat Snake's ailments. When Snake is shot, there is a chance that the bullet didn't pass through him, requiring the player to use a knife to remove the bullet, apply disinfectant, apply styptic and bandage the wound. This was done through a submenu in the pause screen. Other ailments the player must treat Snake for include: leeches, broken bones, burns, cut, arrow/bolts/needles, stomach sickness, colds, and food/venom poisoning. Adding to the survival elements of the game, Snake Eater lives up to its name by requiring the player to scavenge food for Snake. Under the life bar there is stamina bar. If Snake does not eat any food the bar depletes, causing various effects. When the stamina bar is low, the player's ability to aim is severely handicapped, Snake's hands will shake in the first person aiming mode. Just like real life, Snake's stomach can also rumble, enemy soldiers can hear this, and will be alerted to Snake's presence.

Wolfenstein RPG
Wolfenstein RPGWolfenstein RPG is a first-person shooter and role-playing video game developed by id Software and Fountainhead Entertainment, released in September 2008 for mobile phones and in May 2009 for iOS. In 2013 the game was removed from App Store. The gameplay follows the recipe from Doom RPG as it is shown in the first person while being a turn-based role-playing game rather than a shooter and puts emphasis on the plot. Combat and movement are turn-based, allowing the player time to select their responses in combat. The player turns at 90 degree angles and moves space by space. One step or action by the player allows all other characters in the area to take one step or action themselves. The game takes advantage of its deliberately slow pace, encouraging players to take their time and check out every little corner, read the books on every bookshelf, and destroy all the furniture to see if anything is hidden within. Levels include underground passages and weapon development laboratories plus a level involving a moving vehicle. The game also includes two mini games: the card game War as well as Chicken Kicking, where the player is awarded points for kicking a chicken into a score area.
