I played it for many hours on the PSone in the early 2000s. I always got stuck on the last city or area, because of how hard and punishing the game actually is, and there were so many unexpected ways to die. However, I always found something that kept me coming back for more. The design of the city, the sounds and the criminal atmosphere.
Recently, I watched streams of Josh playing the PC version of GTA2. I didn't feel any nostalgia because it wasn't my favourite game, so I was able to appreciate what I saw afresh. And my goodness! Despite the top-down view and clunky moments (especially when shooting), the city looks so real and alive, and the gameplay offers so many funny and unexpected scenarios. I also appreciated the retro-futuristic dystopian style. I would love to play this atmospheric game.
