This game changed my brain chemistry. I first discovered it on YouTube watching a youtuber by the name of Helloween4545, and this was a WHILE back, and I was just... oh man. A dark, grungy Alice in Wonderland at a time in my life where I wanted to be even a little edgy was just SO up my alley.
The sequel is so good in its own right, but the ORIGINAL is UNTOUCHABLE. The music is so unbelievably good, the weapons are phenomenal and all of them feel like they matter, and all of the characters are so interestingly designed. The areas are so cool and so fun to look at, and the game is an experience. The writing, too, is incredibly witty and feel exactly like you'd immediately think a Dark Alice in Wonderland would sound like; unhunged, a little manic, witty, intelligent, and insane... yet always with a hint of something you're trying to understand.
Looking through the pictures is such a treat haha. I loved this game so much, it became my whole identity for a while, lmao. I had the music on my iPod, I found the costume in stores and nearly shrieked and then proceeded to wear it at EVERY single cosplay event, and I even found and purchased a physical copy on eBay just to have. The booklets were SO incredible. Absolutely required for any release of this.
The creator- American McGee's Alice- and his wife sell bunnies based around the White Rabbit's design in this game, or his stuffed animal design. I have the Anxiety Rabbit, because it's stinkin' cute and... I have anxiety, lmao. There's all sorts of other Rabbits they have, including the design of her stuffed rabbit from either this one or the sequel, I'm blanking a teensie bit. So good.
This can be played if you have Madness Returns on... uh, EA's new thing, Origin? EA Play? Whatever it is, my copy of Madness Returns there also came with the original game. It keeps crashing at a certain point, though, so I'd KILL to have it here, on GOG.
