Great story and atmosphere, bad crashes
I never played the original, but I found the characters and setting very compelling in this game. The gameplay is acceptable, mostly a way to carry the story along. The melee combat was the worst to me, simply press Y at the right time to dodge, then B three times to hit, and once more to activate a takedown. Pretty mindless and boring. The shooting and driving were fine for me. I would have given this game 4 stars if not for the horrible compatibility issues on Windows 11 that almost had me abandon the game several times. It's really surprising that a modern game like this would not even load up when I first tried the game, and later would cause black screens that required me to restart my computer. Searching online you can find several possible ways to fix these issues, but I had to try many possible fixes before I found what worked for me. First, you should run the game from the mafiadefinitiveedition.exe in your game folder, not the launcher. You will also need to adjust the mafiadefinitiveedition.exe properties to disable fullscreen optimizations and run in compatibility mode for Windows 7. Other people online suggested turning off VSYNC and running the game in windowed mode, but I didn't find this made a difference for me.

Good combat, linear story line
It's fun. Not quite on the level of RDR2 kind of polish but it is still fun. Game play and combat is simple, and satisfying. One drawback is that the gameplay is very linear, with no deviation from the main story line. Would like to see side missions.

cant play full screeen
