Overall, it’s a solid 7/10

Despite the fun premise, Army Men: RTS has limitations that held it back from broader appeal. The game’s AI, for example, lacks sophistication; with enemy troops often failing to respond adequately to attacks and some may find the pathfinding mechanics clunky, leading to frustrating moments as units struggle to navigate around obstacles. The gameplay doesn’t delve deeply into strategic complexity either, relying more on basic "rock-paper-scissors" tactics than advanced planning, which may leave RTS veterans wanting more depth. However, the game controls are user-friendly, especially given that it was also released on consoles, making it accessible to a wider audience. Personally I enjoyed the titles in the series such as "Toys In Space" that were more focused on the RTT aspect vs the RTS entries in the series.

The game doesn't run on modern systems

Don't bother buying until they fix it. The game doesn't even start up and despite trying different patches, system settings, compatibility settings, launch options etc nothing helps. I've tried searching online for fixes and found nothing seems to work. It's very disappointing as games sold on GOG are meant to be patched to work on modern systems, but this one definitely hasn't.

Toys story-esqe RTS with solid gameplay

Played this game as a kid many years ago, was even part of a clan back then. This game was great, and going through the campgain now, brings back memories, but is also a reminder of the solid gameplay this game offers in fun environments like the front lawn, the basement, living room, play room, attic, etc... The voice of Sarge (I forget his name, but he does a lot of Winnie the Pooh) does every other voice in this game to. He does a killer Robert Stack. His voice is fun and really brings a funny vibe to this whole thing. Gruff, but not serious. If you're tired of the games of today (2024) and want something simple, that feels rewarding and is a slower paced relaxing kind of experience. Check this one out, you'll have a good time.

A legit quality game

Exeptional execution of the art style, a great soundtrack and easy to understand & engaging gameplay in singleplayer, both the campaign and the challenge missions. Resolutions are locked to 1280x1024 and lower, but any custom resolution will work as long as it stays bellow 1280x1024 (including custom 16:9 ones) The skirmish mode does not support enemy AI opponents by default but there is a quick to apply user mod that adds this in, without altering anything else.

Humble Beginnings

A very average RTS from a very talented former developer. Crazy this was made by the same guys that would go on to make classics such as, Clone Wars, Battlefront 1&2 and the Mercenaries series. But they had to start somewhere I guess
