First gorgeous sunny weekend in a long while! :D Yesterday, I helped my Mom weed the garden. Hated the actual task, but was happy that my Mom was in a great mood, so we spent some quality time together. After that, I visited my retired barber and got an awesome haircut. Spent the remainder of the evening cycling.
Well, so far the RAT is working properly... which is good to know. So it was 100% the old mouse being the culprit. If it would be any different the cost would be near endless, because in worst case if it would be a board-issue, from a high end EATX board, the price is nowadays 1000 coins, no joke... i wish it would be a joke. Although very unlikely, as those boards are made to last... but a board is a very complicated device and manufacturing failures are very common. Anyway, new RAT is fine and issue solved, i am happy.

As a reminder: It is not so much use if a switch is able to last 60 or even more million clicks if in the end a processor or even the cable is becoming defective (which is in my experience both more common as an issue). So, what they need to improve is the endurance of the processor (any electronics inside) and watch out for the cable attachment at the entry point, which is prone to bend itself and over time... even the best cable can slowly break without some special sturdy material (perhaps kevlar powered cable or whatelse... i am not the engineer but i know the weak points).

Sure, i already had a mouse with a destroyed switch at the very old days but those switches are nowadays engineered more sturdy than some other stuff which still was without improvement.

Oh and for the KBs... i am not able to find a single one with sufficiently sturdy buttons who are not totally wearing out in not much more than 1 year of use... however... the CherryMX switches are surely not the culprit, they may last a lot of years, according to my experience. The engineers have to take care more at the surface of the buttons itself... it is very weak on any KB i know of.

I got the feeling, the companies are always "cutting some corners" which is never brought up by any reviewer because they do not do long-term tests, and the finest truth will only become revealed after years of use... just how it works.

Steelseries keyboards last long. I've had mine for 9 years before I replaced it because of a broken key. I got another Steelseries second hand however, as alas you can't find a new Steelseries board without RGB lights no more.

In this heavy heat and humidity, plus living in an apartment complex that is hotter than a pizza oven, I guess a couple of things did make me happy today: one quarter fresh watermelon, homemade iced tea, air conditioning at work, several bottles of cold sparkling water, strawberry-lemon kombucha, two ice-cream sandwiches, four cold showers, homemade iced coffee, sitting on a bench at the park between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. with the faintest of breezes giving me some relief, and prancing about my apartment wearing nothing but my birthday suit because I could not bear having fabric touching my sweaty skin. :)
