I'd like this feature too. As GOG gets more recent and new games, overlap with other purchases get more common.
It would be nice to be able to mark each game as at least "owned elsewhere". It would be even greater if GOG could import your Steam game list directly and do it for you.

I guess this could work. If it just said that you owned it, but didn't actually let you download it, that would be a nice feature, I guess. Especially if it had an option to not show the "Greyed out" one on your shelf, that would be a fairly neat feature.
Not exactly the most useful for me, but for people who own a lot of boxed games, it could be nice.

Would really like this feature. I am slowly buying digital copies for my most loved (and owned) games and with this feature I could see quickly which ones I am missing (and no, I don't want to just merge it with my wishlist as I personally give the wishlisted games a higher priority to buy because I was not already be able to play them)
This is a good feature not just because some people can forget what they've bought but also because it allows faster browsing through games and focusing on new games instead (because it's easier to skip games you already own).
Ah, I am not the only one to think this is a good idea! (votes)
Great idea! Having about 400 games on steam, buying duplicates can happen, specially when they are titles that I acquired in a bundle.
I agree with this. The site already has an option to not display games you've bought from GOG, so any argument about the concept of such a feature is besides the point. If it's valid to filter out games you've bought on GOG, it'd valid to filter out games you've bought, period.
Trust me, Cobalt, when you have build up an inmense games library, this will happen to you. I can't remember how many times I went to purchase a game only to notice I already owned it. And this only on one platform/service. If I own a game in another one, then I'm even more likely to forget.
You're saying you can't remember what games or haw many you own and bought from where? Unbelievable! What? Your brain stopped working?
Just the ability to cancel out recommended titles would be nice. I already own two copies of most of the Infinity Engine games and have no need to buy them all again.
Mostly I want this so games I already own don't show up in the Recommended section.
This would be awesome system. Something like "Bought elsewhere" would be nice. I have some games as physical and some games sold here I have already bought from Steam so it would make it easier to browse games when you would be able to hide games you have bought elsewhere. Also, an idea about Ignore would be nice and then you would be able to hide games you are not interested in.
I AGREE.. but what if your retail game disc gets lets say snapped [happened to me **Oblivion Disc one** got snapped] then have the option of redownloading for a FEE..
This might be of interest as well: http://www.gog.com/en/wishlist/site/ability_to_get_a_50_discount_on_games_you_own_physically
The simplest solution is to give us the ability to add games to an ignore list. Thus we could not only mark already owned games but also mark games, which we are not interested in. GOG would benefit from profiling us better for advertising ;)
The simplest solution it to give us the ability to add games to a ignore list.
Include a field where I can insert a hyperlink to the download page (eg. my Humble Bundle redeem link or the Desura page for the given indie game) and this would be a decent stopgap for the lack of a non-Steam unified game manager.
It doesn’t seem like much overhead, just an option for the user to manually mark a game as “already owned”. He/she should be able to buy / gift the game (again) or to remove the “owned”-label. The difference is on a detailed game page, where you “own” the game, but are not able to redownload, since you didn’t buy it here. ;) It will be more useful for the user if he can see in the list what games he owns. You could display the “already owned” button in another color or text to indicate that a game is not purchased on Gog.com.
I would prefer this option as well, sometimes I buy the digital version here, but others, I'd just simply like to ignore when looking through the catalogue. This doesn't mean that we shouldn't be able to purchase the game later. Even in the bookshelf, they don't need to show, if they do, simply grey them out and only allow a member to purchase it if clicked.
