Keep store page for removed games (with disabled purchasing)

Added byneotask's avatarneotask

Store page of the game contains useful information like system requirements, what systems are/were supported and comments/reviews. When game is removed from GOG catalogue this information is not available any more. Please consider keeping the game page with disabled purchasing OR providing a very similar page to that accessible at least to users who have purchased the game.

If I remember correctly, Steam does have pages for removed games - doing similar thing on GOG should be possible.

It really would be useful to have the pages remain, at least in some form, marked as not available. The Internet is so quick to rewrite history - it's a bad tendency, one that should be noted and resisted. There were games here, people bought them, they are no longer here - that is fact, not a legal liability. It sure would be good to be able to check the details of the purchases we've made.

And I will add that these pages should be only available to people that already have the game (so new people will not see the page and think it's available)

Heads up, the next 20 or so "comments" are spam posted in a couple of different languages.

Especially the users reviews, so much helpful really.
I truly hope Gog would consider the idea.

Surely there is plenty of information that can be displayed that cannot in principle violate any agreements. Especially if it is for people who already paid for it. They just need a possibility to disable/hide certain content/features.

Reportedly there might be legal problems with keeping the whole thing: http://www.gog.com/forum/fallout_series/reviews_link_broken/post6

Great idea. Also some short info about why it was removed would be nice.

I'd like that a lot! With a huge backlog, it can help to view the store page to know what the game was about and why you bought it, when deciding what game from the backlog to start.

YES PLEASE! I want to get SWAT3 (best in the series, i say), but when i finally could afford it, i noticed that it is not on the GOG games list anymore.

Would also be worth coupling it with a 'Register Interest' button, that way it can also feed back how many people would be interested in the game should it return as well as an alert if it returns.

I have 2 good points to make for you about this.

- First it will help current members remember some old and long forgotten favorite games.

- Second and more to your advantage is while people like myself are looking for an old game they want to play again on one of the big search engines it will lead them to this site. Even if you don't have the game currently they will most likely bookmark the page and buy something you do have.

I very much agree with this. I hate when these pages just go into oblivion.

". . .providing a very similar page to that accessible at least to users who have purchased the game. "

This would be useful!

Good idea. System requirements in particular are information we'll still have a use for, e.g. if someone has bought a laptop with Intel integrated graphics and needs to know whether a previously purchased GOG game is compatible.
