Include scans of out-of-print hint books/strategy guides as extras

Added byLeftHandedMatt's avatarLeftHandedMatt

Old strategy guides are often difficult to find or the used prices are far too high, and many of them were of excellent quality back in the 1990s. High quality scans would be a wonderful extra to go with the games. Scans of many of the old Sierra hint books are available (legally) at www.sierragamers.com

Great idea, I have some old strategy guides just because they were beautifully done. As some users said, it could also be done as a seperate ebook to buy - then I might even buy it for some of my old games I don't have on gog.

Good Idea! Would be a valuable extra and a selling point for GOG indeed. Would be great whenever doable. (Probably lots of legal stuff on a case by case basis for GOG to handle... viable used market, licensing, avoiding false marketing when the same extra is available for free elsewhere etc etc..)

I don't usually use hint books (especially for RPGs since I feel it encourages meta gaming), but sometimes I feel like I certainly could use one. the book that came with The Longest Journey was really helpful once or twice when I got stuck. Like someone else said though, if providing them as a freebie is cost prohibitive, I would be willing to purchase the books separately so that I only had them for games I needed them. Maybe a button for that could be added onto the gamecard and you could purchase the book separately for reasonable cost. I say that largely b/c this would be a nice feature, but I do not want it at the cost of it being a financial burden to GOG.

More interested in *buying* hint books than getting them as freebies.

You could also provide the strategy guides for The Witcher and The Witcher 2...

Some games do come with the hint-books such as Might & Magic however it would be beneficial to increase the number of games which have them available.
