Get backup copies of games owned on Steam at discount or for small fee

Added bySmashManiac's avatarSmashManiac

Whenever I consider purchasing a game, I always prefer buying the game on GOG.com for a DRM-free version, but sometimes that's not possible because the game is exclusive to Steam on PC. So it's always frustrating to me when I buy such a game and it gets released on GOG.com afterwards (ex.: Brütal Legend, Dust: An Elysian Tail). I don't want to purchase the same game at full price again if I already own it, but I don't want to deal with DRM either if I can avoid it. Considering this, it would be great if it was possible to acquire backup copies of owned Steam games on GOG.com in a process similar to what was done in the past with The Witcher 1&2 PC backups, even if it's just for a limited time to avoid abuse. I understand that GOG.com cannot give this service for free unfortunately, but I believe it would benefit gamers, GOG.com and game publishers alike if that service would be offered in exchange of a discounted price (maybe 80%) or a small fixed fee (maybe 99¢ for retro games and $2.99 for new games).

This already exists. It's called "Sale Price". I have a few games that I have purchased twice. Once on steam when it was steam only, and then once here at GOG. I just wait until GOG has one of their sales, and pick it up for cheap.

Also, a lot of the games that appear both here and on steam are actually DRM free on steam. If you don't need the client running, then there really isn't DRM, is there?

This Steam stuff...It almost makes wish for a downvote feature. GOG is not a backup service for Steam, it's another DD service.
