Dismiss the red icon after viewing updated game

The red icon next to the My Account tab is a very useful notifier of new forum replies and messages, but it becomes a distraction after a game has been updated because the icon persists for 24 hrs. It would be an improvement if the icon would be dismissed automatically after the updated game has been selected and viewed in the library. Thanks.

Alternately, if it is impractical to reduce the time it takes the notifier to disappear, then could you retain the update tag on the game shelf while it remains? It is irksome for that to vanish right away, as sometimes one clicks away and then, going back, discovers that the indicator is gone from the game itself. Yet it remains in the toolbar, mockingly.
