This game originally had a game breaking mission bug that made it un-completeable. It was never officially fixed, and I don't know if a fan made patch ever came out for it. However, I still have my original game discs, and if GOG could fix the bug and make it playable on modern systems, they would definitely have a sale here!
lol im having some interesting glitches. sometimes when i order my helmsman to "warp to target" in system, my helmsman crashes directly into the target ship at warp 1 and destroys us both. another time i tried to warp in-system to a gas giant, and ended up plowing all the way through it at warp 1 (resulting in many explosions and my bridge crew screaming out things like "MASSIVE HULL RUPTURES ACROSS ALL DECKS! WARP CORE CRITICAL! CREW CASUALTIES ACROSS ALL DECKS!
The game has some fixes now, so it's playable even with 64-bit Windows 8. Been playing it just now, actually. The game has held up very well. Only problem is, I can't seem to find a way to get around the tedious disc-swapping. Well, now I just have to figure out how to get Starfleet Academy to work properly.
ST KA is a great game with great visuals. As most people know, it does not run well on Win7 and is in great need of updating. The main issue is of course the rendering of starfields during close combat. There are some online workarounds for this issue, but none are easy, or totally effective. I hope GOG can get the rights to this great game and update it to run on Win7 and later with DirectX.
Any way to get this game to GOG would be great.
Voted for this a while ago and managed to get my hands on it, but it definitely needs the GOG treatment. Getting the game to run is pain in the butt on Windows 8 (although that might be due to AVG flagging the exe as a false positive). It would be great if GOG could come up with a version of the game that included the most popular (from what I see) patches/mods and made a no-CD patch.
This game was epic. I remember buying Game Commander voice control JUST to use for this game. Belting out "RAISE SHIELDS -- PHOTON TORPEDOES -- FIRE!!" bearing down on a D7 was unbelievable.
There has been NOTHING like it since; an absolutely unique experience that felt like being in the captain's chair.
Voted ages ago, agree with EVERYTHING here, can we not get this wonderful, incredible game on GOG, post haste?! I will tell a tale of EPIC proportions once we do, right on these very forums* (ok its going to be about how and why I missed the retail release of this way back when) but its good, lets get the word out!!
I WANT THAT GAME!
And if someone doesn´t have KA image files or CDs , there are on net to download :-) !
Klingon Academy is still live, check KA website. There is a patch for new PC and for new Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
And at avery Friday 7PM ET we play Klingon Academy multiplayer, it´s fun :-) ! Join US :-) !
...With special guest (voice), George Takei! For, like, one mission! But it's him. Oh, my...!
This would be a great addition to gog.com. At one time, this game had a very large following with great mods. I have the box set and have not played it since xp; would love to command a klingon D7 one more time!
KA is STILL one of the most immersive games ever.
I loved this game! It was so fun being a klingon commander. I used to play against a friend, each battle would end up turning into a ramming-fest! What was the main character's name? Torlec?
I just want more General Chang.
This is one of my favourite cap-ship sims ever, and no game has yet to hold a candle to how well it felt -- not Starshatter, not Freespace 2, and neither prior nor subsequent titles in the Star Trek licence franchises. Bridge Commander was close, but too dumbed down, and Star Fleet Academy was too heavily inspired by Star Fleet Battles to feel very authentic to the cinematic combat. The damage model in KA was phenomenal -- starships felt like they had awesome power, and yet the awesome power was met with awesome survivability to make a bloody, gory mess of tangled, broken starships strewn between battles of manoeuvre and strategic use of stellar terrain.
Perhaps the saddest part of a GOG release, however, would be the lack of the beautiful wire-bound manual as thick as a man's fist (I exaggerate, but not by much!). Game manuals back when they used to be good.
if GoG need the files of this game i would like to help due to the fact ive still got this game as retail if needed
BTW this game has 8 disc with it so it going to take ages for GoG to patch and get it work
@ Garretttaffer it works still on XP and ive also had it working on win7 but the graphics are blocky at the start when u laod it up then u cant see the menu to aply the game lol
I would love to play this game game!
Stumbled upon a pretty motivating review here : www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRLR0uff62M
This game stopped working after XP (at least for me) All of the supposed "fixes" online have never worked. This is probably one of the best space sims, in terms of gameplay. Blowing up Excelsior class ships with your klingon battle cruiser piece by piece, never gets old.
I don't know if this still crashes on modern PCs, I should probably install my version and see. I'd still like a download version though.
DORSAL SHIELDS ARE BUCKLING!
