Action-adventure game released in 1988 by Compile for MSX2-compliant PCs. Plays somewhat similarly to games like Zelda and Hydlide, but more focused on action. Overworld areas must be completed in linear sequence, though players can gain new abilities to unlock restricted areas previously encountered. Dungeons are either overhead, auto-scrolling action challenges or horizontal auto-scrolling platforming levels. All in all, Golvellius was one of the most polished games of its type upon release, despite issues with grinding. Audiovisuals are quite good for the MSX2, and the game world's more developed than that of Zelda or Hydlide.

Thanks to the efforts of the MSX fan community, Golvellius and many other Compile classics have received English-language translations. Getting the legal right to provide MSX2 emulator standalones will be a more difficult proposition, though, as system ROMs are required to play the floppy-disk images Japanese customers played this game on.
