tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/Genocide www.mobygames.com/game/genocide-genocide-square

Side-scrolling action game compilation developed/published by Zoom in 1993 for the Fujitsu FM Towns; Genocide and Genocide II respectively came out for the Sharp X68000 in 1989 and 1991. Both games, the former significantly rebalanced and the latter tweaked, put you in the role of Ken Ryugasaki, who first defeats the homicidal supercomputer MESIA before stopping CONEX, a powerful multi-national, from ruling the world over. Piloting Tracer, a bulbous mech fitted with acrobatic ability, players must fight and jump through horizontal environments, attacking up close with a saber beam.

In their day, Genocide and Genocide II were showpieces for 16-bit Japanese computer gaming, and Genocide Square is their definitive package. With options for MIDI sound enhancement as well as in-game settings, this version weeds out slowdown as game-breaking design flaws. Zoom even included new FMV videos before each game started, featuring their company mascot Dolucky and vaguely well-directed stop-motion battling. Most importantly, the first Genocide is now on more equal terms with its successor.

Comment burried. Unhide. .

The sequel got a DOS port by a Korean company called Mantra in 1995 based on the FM Towns version with remixed CD-quality music. I'd would love to see that version's music included as a bonus or something.
