According to Metacritic, it recieved rave reviews. Was released in 2003. Looks like it was stylistically between X2 and Freespace 2.

Would be nice to see it alongside the other options like Freespace 2. Freespace 2 is more about a fighter sim that's done superbly well, but freelancer is not so tight and more free-form.

Seriously, I would explore unknown space, mine asteroids, buy a dozen different ships, fight off hordes of pirates AND bounty hunters, while, near-signal-handedly stopping an insidious alien invasion. I would steal, lie, become a space-pirate, join some mysterious Order, and even *gulps* trade. Because in the end, Freelancer is all these things, and one of the best games I have ever experienced. Please stalk Microsoft until the only way to get rid of your shadow is for them to let you sell this game and make you both more monies! The sleeper-ships need you GOG, get them their rocket fuel. Take GOG back to the stars!

OH YES. This is my favorite game of all time! It's just so damn beautiful; I can't think of any game released since that made my jaw drop the same way. If I ever got the chance to add this to my GOG library, I would weep bloody tears of joy!

I think it's a travesty this game has not already been added to the GOG library. It still has a dedicated fanbase and the game is kept alive by talented modders. But it is a royal pain in the ass sometimes trying to get the base game to run on current systems. For this reason alone I would personally buy Freelancer day one if it were to come to GOG.

I still own it on disk and made some serious progress to the main story during college, but I long to get back into it and having it on GOG would make it so much easier to install and play on multiple devices, allowing me to do this. Please bring Freelancer to GOG :)

I hope and dream that this title will be added because I have several friends that have played this game and have either damaged or lost the cds over the years, they would love to play it again, additionally the mod community has added so much additional content over the years to this game making it highly replayable

I've had this game for years and the main reason I want this game on GOG is that My disc is starting to get scratched up and I would like to have a DRM-Free copy (The game currently requires disc in drive) as well as the free extras that always come with GOG games

if they release it and get it working perfectly on w7/8 I'd totally buy it again, I can't get the game up and running from the cds without constant crashing and problems with resolutions

This game was absolutely fantastic, and I can't play it anymore on my current computer. I miss the absolute hell out of it. So many hours of fun when I was in highschool.
