Luka020 My thumbs up for this game to be ported to PC and Linux! This is one of rare turn based tactical games that got just everything right! A flawless combat system and supply system, fog of war, even a perfectly thought out system for when the night falls on the battlefield, with the cherry on the top of being able to see end-of-battle statistics adjusted to scale. Modern developers are struggling to replicate a formula developed more than 20 years ago!

This games deserve to be alive again. And one major problem lay in gap between dos and later windows games: under dos mode is not running... so run a dos symulator do not helps as well as compatybility mode (only to win98 sp2) under windows... so probably win95 would be fit as his environmental; as well as 64/32 bit compatibility issue.
FallingBright As many have said, given the fact that this is one of the all time great hex strategy games, and that is literally the only genre that hasn't been pushed forward by modern tech (save a few great point and click adventures) , this is one of the few good old games that is truly relevant beyond nostalgia in its genre today. It's worth the effort GOG - hope it sees the light of day here.
se7ens22 The only way to make this game work (and CWG1) is using a 32bit win 10/7/xp OS. The wing32.dll only works with x86 because it was made x86. I play it all the time for win 10 via virtual OS with 32bit OS.
GOG would have a hard time converting MANY of the code for windows 10 64bit as the source code isn't available for sale or Sierra has a strict reproduction rights. The only way this game will get streamlined in GOG is if there is a huge demand for it or if there is resurgence of civil war games for 2021. Sadly, we won't see CWG1 & 2 on GOG. They can try but it will never be perfect.
Jim...S I believe I still have the files to make it play without a cd as well but could never play online after getting win7 I think it was . If any one knows how to play somewhere online and wants to play let me know. Player made scenarios by Stonewall Jackson, old sierra players will remember him as well as Ghosts Gettysburg as being most often played competitively . Tournaments with a dozen Generals mapping out strategy and then trying to execute them. Great fun till it became unsupported, The Nobunaga's ambition is another oldy people might try which would be good if it could be played on line,many hours spent playing with my brothers on wet days.
Jim...S I have the original cd,but have dled from gog before,no where to play online now though. I have dozens of player made scenarios,many even based weaponry units and forces for 2 player combat.

FallingBright This is one of the greatest hex based strategy games of all time, I have no doubt it would hold up extremely well! Especially as modern hex based strategy games still don't rely much on graphics. Would be a wonderful addition to the catalogue!

Tophappy Agreed, played this game a little as a kid (could only win battles when I had numerical advantages way back then) and found it again online and actually learned to properly play back in 2015... but between computer crashes and weblinks to fixes going offline I haven't been able to play since, but still have all my original save files backed up. Recently joined here cause I saw Homeworld: "Emergence" on here and had never gotten to play that one before. So lets get some CWG2!!!!

Geaux3188 Hey y'all. There is a website that has CWG II as a full download that works great on windows 10. Been playing it for over a year now. The bad news is that I can't remember the website. I got it by goggle and asking for CWG II tpplay on windows 10. I'll keep looking for it. I've had no problems with the game and it runs without the CD.

GrudgeBringer_ I found my old game in a move. For all you REALLY old gamer's that perhaps played on Ten or the Sierra game rooms...I am/was GrudgeBringer. I took the game to Computer shop that I use for my business. They somehow made it come back to life and i am still playing against the computer (if anyone knows how to win at Chancellorsville as the South...lol, let me know. If anyone knows how to set up a one on one link (I am not a computer whizz) let me know!!!

sandman1110 I bought the original on CD, when that quit working, I downloaded it from Old Games.com. that version won't work with Windows 7 and higher. I will definitely buy it again if you folks can make a workable version at GOG. It has to be the best strategy game covering the American Civil War ever. It has infinite re-playability and branching campaigns that cover a thousand "what if's". This would be well worth the time and effort to convert and devleop.

Dieudonne Fun Game. Triggering of AI is simplistic, but remains fun, and potentially a great game for multiplayer. Infantry bumps, rather than shoots, & my daughter met Obomber, but no one - no game is perfect.
Overall; one of the best - fun - and what are games for? pc games ever crafted. At one point, Impressions announced their intention to create a Civil War Generals 3, but shortly gave up on the idea. To improve on CWG2 would necessitate some serious improvement work on the AI Triggering.
Having a working CWG2 (on windows 10), would be a great step forward for man/women kind.
Byas Did an Attempt on Downloading this game on Sierragamers by Ken Williams website with no avail. If GoG has Swat 4, then this could come next. Ultimate General was garbage compared to this.
