I own the original version and I own the GOG-Version. I don't know how many times I tried to get that "Big-World"-thing working. I failed every single time... And yes, I've read everything about it here on the site.
So if there would be a GOG-Version of the EE I'll buy it. I just want a working version with a few inprovements.
I honestly don't understand the bashing the Enhanced Edition is getting. So it doesn't do everything all the mods do... so what? The whole point is its a single, concise package that doesn't take any tinkering whatsoever to get running with the improvements it does have, not that its better than every mod ever created. Modders by the luxury of not having to answer to anyone else can mod anything into a game that they'd like to. As for bugs, EVERYTHING has bugs on release, patches are released to resolve them.
Still waiting for GOG release.
Would love to have the Enhanced Edition (and the EE of the sequel ofc) on GOG, please talk to Beamdog GOG, make it happen please!
The only real reason to buy this is the support Beam Dog's final goal of creating BG3. But if BG1:EE is a demonstration of their skills then I have doubts that they could make a worthy sequel to my favourite RPG. They fixed some bugs but introduced new ones as well. Fan-made mods do just about everything the EE does, and arguably better. But all that aside, I don't think it should be released on GoG as there are still maaaany bugs on their "to fix" list. I'm used to GoG releases being more or less stable.
And if I look on Steam it's €18,99 which is quite more then on the beam dog site where it's $19,99...
I want the game, but i don't want the DRM, will pay more for DRM free games.
Well, for those that missed it Steam has now released BG1 EE (app/228280/) so it appears beamdog has decided not to keep it exclusive. Still, I do not believe they would be willing to allow it to be DRM-free, not when there's only a niche-market for the games and they haven't even broke even for the first one, let alone having gotten enough to proceed remaking BG2 EE...
I'd love it if it this could be for both Windows and Mac.
I love Baldur's Gate: EE and I would gladly buy another DRM free version from GOG
I wish I could unvote it.
When they fix it up nicely so it's not seemingly bugging out on every third person, I would buy it from GOG. The convenience of playing BG1 in the BG2 engine on a modern rig right out of the box is worth something to me, but not with the online registration/authentication DRM on install, especially not for a rerelease of a 14-year-old game that I can already play with most of the enhancements with just a little extra hassle. But yes, I'd be happy to support the work the Overhaul team is doing if they were willing to cooperate with _me_ by allowing GOG to release it DRM free. ;)
Very much love to have it on GOG... someone do something please!
Requires client or not, I voted for this anyway. Will not buy from official site mainly cause of DRM, also if cloud save games aren't optional then they can forget my money.
You all realize that you don't need the beamdog client to buy/play BG:EE? You just use it to download the game, you enter your e-mail to register and that's it. You don't have to run through a client or anything like that.
Where can i remove my vote?
Please bring it to GOG.
A fair amount of people seem hung up on the idea that the game requires you to use a client. It doesn't. You sign up on their site when you buy the game and then you sign in once during the installation in order to validate. After this point into the future, the only connection that gets made is to their update servers to check for patches.
I would easily pay $30 for this game if that would be on gog... But it looks like it's not going to be, so I'm not gonna buy it. I'm pretty sure that there are quite a few people like me who don't want to sign up at beamdog. Maybe later when they will struggle to sell 200,000 copies (to make it break even) on beamdog, they would realize their mistake and sign up a deal with gog.... Because it's gog.com team who made this game available for digital download and then made it so popular in recent yearsI 'm glad that Icewind Dale 1 & 2 is on gog so I have great RPGs to play (and plenty other titles too)!
Will only buy it if not requesting any specific client or connection, for instance would buy it if available on GoG ;-)
As someone said below, it is blasphemy, I dont support making Baldurs saga a cash cow. Who dont own Baldurs gate series, should buy the original one; phisical copy of this game has more than one language available for not english speakers.
I was really looking forward to BG:EE. Guess I won't be getting it now. I do not like clients... this game does not need one in the slightest. Another game I will have to pass on. Seems like every game I get excited about I have to pass on lately because of stuff like this.
I just read the game has been delayed http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-09-17-baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition-delayed-from-september-to-november
I agree so much with you vsr, I won't buy this and prefer to play the original Baldur's Gate !
I really hope Beamdog have better cloud servers then Blizzard, as they plan to be the sole distribution centre for this game. In one foul swoop Blizzard ruined Diablo for me forever with Diablo 3 and its awful constant internet connection. Beamdog are limiting themselves and could end up ruining a series fondly remembered by so many. Oh well, so long as GOG have the original two we shall be okay.
This is Blasphemy! I will definitely not buy this. Oster and his gang plan to use BG as a cash cow, releasing tonns of charged DLC's for it after release. Also he said that saves will be stored in "cloud", so constant internet connection required also. Buy vanilla version on GOG or Amazon (.com, .co.uk) if you do not have this gem.
I won't buy it either, I don't want another useless and annoying client. I already got four of them and that is quite enough.
When I don't buy it until it's on GoG they will hopefully make some plans to sell it here too.
true, beside box edition, we want digital, cmon its 2012
Bad news, Trent Oster said they don't have any plans for GOG. Source: https://twitter.com/TrentOster/status/221449787856269313
No...fuck fanmade content, it's never up to par and always totally confusing and too much of everything.
Can't wait! The Baldur's Gate francies have always been a favorite of mine, and this I bet, is not going to be any diffrent. GoG, please put it up for sale!
I'm really excited for this and hope that I could buy it via GoG when it comes! I kind of missed the Baldur's gate games when they were new and they seem a little bit too outdated graphically for today's standards so an enhanced edition would be welcome. Of course good games aren't all about graphics; for example I don't mind playing Fallout/Fallout 2 now because I played those back then; but I don't have any such memories about Baldur's Gate so improved graphics and some systems would be welcomed.
"enhanced" means that they will try to build in many mods the community did too. I played BG1 and BG2 with some mods and they are really amazing. Now my BG1+2 are together 15+ GB but its worth it. New Patches, better balance, new classes *thumbs up*
The only way I would even consider buying this is if it had some excellent modding tools, so modders don't have to hack the game with many third party tools to make mods. Otherwise, I have no desire to play any "enhanced" version of a classic game. The hack job that is River City Ransom EX cured me of that.
I don't think that I will ever play an "enhanced" version of a classic game like Baldur's Gate. And I hope that in case GOG will also continue to provide the original version.
This would work grate...if only it were released period. DOH! I jess screwd this entire thing to shits.
Seems like a natural fit for GOG. The classic original beside the modern update. Seems to me perpetuating the life-cycle of the wonderful games of the past is what GOG is all about. Might be a hard sell flogging off the enhanced edition at such a markup though.
From what I gather, there isn't much to the enhanced edition except maybe support for arbitrary resolutions (that already work with the Widescreen mod). Looks like a quick cash grab by Beamdog -- I'd rather see GOG focus their efforts on more worthwhile games.
More like BALLSgate
If their work on MDK2 HD is any indication, then I will be actively avoiding BGEE as the former was a poorly done hack job.
If that is the case I guess I don't see it as a big loss. Besides the upgraded engine I don't really see the big deal with it not coming. Usually the content they add to stuff like that isn't usually that big of a deal, they add it quickly to gain incentive from fans to buy it to play the new content. I just hope that this edition doesn't effect Baldur's Gate on gog being taken down (although it is highly unlikely, you just never know with situations like this)
It'll be for Ipad and PC, but seeing as how the upgrade is being done by a PC games distributor (Beamdog), I don't see the PC version being made available to their competitors, such as GOG.
Isn't that for Ipad though?
Make this happen Internet!
I'd love for Baldur's Gate EE to be released on Gog.com
yeah, would be great to see it here, definite purchase!
gog is good
I really prefer to buy games here.
Would be so awesome!
