Yes I would buy it on GOG but only if it is the original with userpatcher updates (widescreen mostly) and LAN support. AoE II HD edition does not support LAN anymore! I would also be nice to have Rise of Nations, what a great game!

Please make it available for OSX. You would be the first ones to do so :)

I'd prefer GOG get the original AoE 1&2+expansions - 10 bucks for the first, 10 bucks for the second. I'm assuming you can "HD" your games with mods. Of course, this would all mean having to get Microsoft here, which sadly seems very unlikely.

the fact that almost the entire thing has steam written all over it rules out the whole idea of it being on here, plus i've played the HD version at my friends place, its not so good as its hyped up to be, and to be honest, i'd rather stick to the original being here, not the HD version

This would be good however I feel that gog.com needs to get the original + expansion first.
Cheers,

If you have teh original AoE games you can do them over Gameranger. GR works better then gamespy and hamachi combined. Best "simulated lan protocol" over the web Ive ever used, and its lightweight.

I'm with xlucidx on this one. Steam Workshop means it's unlikely to ever leave Steam.
I'm fine with Steam. I have a few games on Steam. It's a 1.5 MB download and maybe takes a couple MB of RAM to run (you can turn off the "run Steam automatically" thing, y'know, if you don't want to play a Steam game that day).
There is a page on here for the original Age of Empires. If you want this game and absolutely refuse to support Steam for single-player games, don't try to convince GoG to negotiate with Valve, just vote up that.

I have absolutely no problems with Steam and I buy games on there every now and then, but if I'm going to spend my money, I'd much rather be able to have a backup somewhere so that if my Internet goes down, or if I don't have access to the Internet, I'll still be able to play my games without hastle or a client.

Even the original would be good on here if the multiplayer and lan worked.

The big problem with Steam (and the reason many don't want to use it, and why sites like GOG exist) is that if you buy a game on Steam, you've no choice but to use Steam. If you stop using Steam, you lose access to your game.
It could be worse, I suppose, but DRM-free is the ideal situation for end users, and that's why a lot of people try to avoid using Steam.

This uses Steamworks for the multiplayer so I doubt you'll be seeing it here any time soon.

Just get it on Steam, it's not Satan incarnate like everyone here seems to believe.

Steamworks?!?!? I do not need. GOG will not release the HD.

They managed to release Alan Wake free from the Steamworks ties.

No real reason why it wouldn't be possible to do the same for Age of Empires 2. : )

Only when the developers cut out the complete STEAM-API. When watching the trailer you can see that they make heavy use of the STEAMWORKS-nonsense. So this would be no option at all! But perhabs the old game? Would love to buy and play it.

While the trailer clearly states that it is Steam-exclusive, I still hope it finds it's way over here.

Better be cheaper than 20 euros. That's way way too expensive.
