The games I loved when I was young

GOGmix by astrosteve's avatarastrosteve 7votes

Space Quest 1+2+3

astrosteve's rating:
250

astrosteve says: My youth would have been boring without these games. Hilarious masterpieces from Sierra. Seminal entries in the history of Adventure games.

Battle Chess Special Edition

astrosteve's rating:
250

astrosteve says: I thought chess was sort of boring until I saw this game. I started playing a ridiculous amount of chess just because I liked watching the pieces demolish each other. A classic.

Master of Orion 1+2

astrosteve's rating:
250

astrosteve says: A classic, oh man. How can I even describe this? It's a space sim that defined a genre. Of course, it had predecessors like Starflight, but this game truly defined a genre. Absolutely required if you have any interest in space games.

Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga

astrosteve's rating:
250

astrosteve says: I wasn't exactly 'young' when I played Baldur's Gate (actually about 24 when it came out), but it must be mentioned. This defined the D&D RPG video game. It continues to influence RPGs to this day, and likely will for years to come.

King's Quest 1+2+3

astrosteve's rating:
250

astrosteve says: I thought the first King's Quest was incredible because I'd never seen a game like it before. I was slightly less impressed with each game in the series. I barely touched 3. KQ basically created the Adventure genre. A must have for that alone.

Simon the Sorcerer

astrosteve's rating:
250

astrosteve says: One of the few non-Sierra adventure games I played. I was always a loyalist and mostly refused to play non-Sierra Adventure games. Simon the Sorcerer, though, is a classic. Plus, GOG has the version voiced by Chris Barrie. (Rimmer from Red Dwarf)

Space Quest 4+5+6

astrosteve's rating:
250

astrosteve says: What, you think I'd only put the first 3 Space Quest games on the list? Space Quest is my very favorite game series of all time. I like it more than Civilization, Football Manager, or anything you can name. It's that good. Get it if you don't have it!

Stronghold Crusader HD

astrosteve's rating:
250

astrosteve says: Again, I wasn't quite "young" when this came out (24), but it's one of the best building sims I've ever played. Building your castle and watching it grow and evolve is great. Plus, I've always been fascinated with the Crusades. Win on all fronts.

Treat your GOGmix as your child - name it! ;)

Coming up with a cool and descriptive title should be your first priority. Being original is in your best interest - bet you wanna get lots of nice votes, right? Go all crazy if you want, but be sure to keep it civil!

So, what are the ingredients?

Pick a game that belongs in your GOGmix from the list, or find it by typing something in the text field. Relevance is key here - Earthworm Jim doesn't quite fit the "Sexiest heroines of all time" bill now, does it?

Justify your choice... Or not!

OK, so it's not required, but now that you went through the trouble of adding a game, telling everyone why you did it would be a nice finishing touch. After you're done here, add another game, rinse, repeat.
