Good Old Adventure Games64votes I like it
HaroldO says: As there is no field to describe the GOGmix per se I'll just use each game's comment section talk about the mix and adventure game facts and trivia.
HaroldO says: I try to group games as franchises to make it easier to follow and for that I chose The Longest Journey, my favorite game of all time as a place to start.
HaroldO says: This is meant to be a comprehensive list of all adventure games available on GOG. The purpose is to help other fellow fans of the genre quickly locate and buy these.
HaroldO says: Dispite of the name of the mix, a play on the store old name, there's not value judgement here. If it's an adventure game, or a closely related hybrid and it will be on the mix, no matter if it's actually good or not.
HaroldO says: If I neglected to list a game you believe belongs here then send me a PM and I'll be happy to consider adding it here if I think it fits the theme. It's not as up to date as it used to.
HaroldO says: The reason I feel this mix even needs to exist is because there's much confusion from publishers and even the gaming community as to what is an Adventure game.
HaroldO says: And I'm not talking about as to whether games like Heavy Rain or The Walking Dead are adventure games. Search for the adventure section of most sites and stores and you get treated to games like Assassin's Creed.
HaroldO says: Point & Click has become sort of a substitute for Adventure when referring to games like on this list, but that's a control scheme, not a genre. Some of this games are Text based, while others have Direct Control.
HaroldO says: Also there are other genres that ostensibly use point & click gameplay such as Hidden-Object Games or Puzzle. That only adds to the confusion.
HaroldO says: Besides, Adventure Games precede the invention of the mouse so I don't think they should be defined by it.
HaroldO says: But OK, I'll give you that: adventure might not be the most apt name given that by current standards there's very little actual adventure going on compared to games like The Legend of Zelda or Prince of Persia.
HaroldO says: I'll keep writing more about this GOGmix soon and adventure games in general. [Work in Progress]
HaroldO says: Spawned the SWAT franchise.
HaroldO says: Feels like a Sherlock Holmes novel. nuff said.
Treat your GOGmix as your child - name it! ;)
Coming up with a cool and descriptive title should be your first priority. Being original is in your best interest - bet you wanna get lots of nice votes, right? Go all crazy if you want, but be sure to keep it civil!
So, what are the ingredients?
Pick a game that belongs in your GOGmix from the list, or find it by typing something in the text field. Relevance is key here - Earthworm Jim doesn't quite fit the "Sexiest heroines of all time" bill now, does it?
Justify your choice... Or not!
OK, so it's not required, but now that you went through the trouble of adding a game, telling everyone why you did it would be a nice finishing touch. After you're done here, add another game, rinse, repeat.
