Games That Won Me Over

GOGmix by jlebel's avatarjlebel 1vote

Deus Ex™ GOTY Edition

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: This was one of the first games that really made me reflect on what I would do if the premise was real. I played out all three endings and found that becoming a god-like being would be the path for me.

Planescape: Torment

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: The first time I played this I stopped about 2 thirds of the way through. Years later I played to the ending twice in a row, that is how good the story is. Once as a mage, then again as a fighter.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obs...

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: One of my favorite side quests is found here. You are entrusted with a skull that provides evidence of a medical experiments done to servant half-ogres, and the upper-class gnomes are implicated. A game full of interesting ideas.

Blood: One Unit Whole Blood

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: What a demented game, but the level design is unprecedented amongst Build engine games and shooters from that era in generally. Highly original, gory, and addictive game play.

Geneforge Saga

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: For years I totally dismissed Jeff Vogel's games until finding a good deal for them on GOG. Now I can't get enough of the Geneforge series.

Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: It took me three attempts to find enough momentum to get to the end, but once I did it was worth it. Winning the final battle is difficult but satisfying.

Neverwinter Nights Diamond

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: This is the game that helped me to discover that I love role-playing as a monk; no armor, no weapons just fists and +5 gauntlets. Awesome. Played it to the end, killed most of the dragons, then played loads of modules.

removeupdown

Darkstone

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: Darkstone was my first experience with this style of game play. I finished it but found the final battle unreasonably difficult and mismatched from the rest of the game which was often too easy.

Longest Journey, The

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: This is an easy game and probably the main reason I was able to finish it. Usually I need a walk through for adventure games, but not this one. I looks great and the story is nice too.

Omikron: The Nomad Soul

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: One of the first games I ever completed I still remember watching David Bowie performing a song in one of the night clubs you'll visit. The final battle was stupid, but everything else was fun.

removeupdown

Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: A good game with some interesting ideas and creative writing. Played it to the end and found it to be fun, but unfortunately there is no replay value.

removeupdown

Hocus Pocus

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: This game is a bit simplistic, but the hand-drawn graphics are gorgeous and I just loved playing this. Probably the only PC platformer that I ever finished.

removeupdown

Space Quest 1+2+3

jlebel's rating:
250

jlebel says: Classic games. I finished all 3 of them and they are worth the effort if you can tolerate the old school user interface.

Treat your GOGmix as your child - name it! ;)

Coming up with a cool and descriptive title should be your first priority. Being original is in your best interest - bet you wanna get lots of nice votes, right? Go all crazy if you want, but be sure to keep it civil!

So, what are the ingredients?

Pick a game that belongs in your GOGmix from the list, or find it by typing something in the text field. Relevance is key here - Earthworm Jim doesn't quite fit the "Sexiest heroines of all time" bill now, does it?

Justify your choice... Or not!

OK, so it's not required, but now that you went through the trouble of adding a game, telling everyone why you did it would be a nice finishing touch. After you're done here, add another game, rinse, repeat.
