Fantastic FPS's

Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: I still hold this as the best first person shooter of all time. It's got it all: amazing level design, lots of stuff to blow up, great multiplayer, and the best of all: the ultimate badass as the protagonist.

Rise of the Triad: Dark War

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: This is one of those shooters that doesn't take itself at all seriously. It's got crazy power-ups, tons of gore (including "ludicrous gibs!"), great level design, a great sense of humor, and keeps the core mechanics simple. Well worth it.

Blood (One Unit Whole Blood)

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: Take everything that was good about Duke Nukem 3D, throw it in a horror setting, throw in tons more references, make it even more ridiculously bloody, and you have Blood. It easily stands tall and proud alongside the great Duke.

Unreal Tournament GOTY

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: The ultimate multiplayer shooter. If you've played any multiplayer shooter since this, you can easily see the impact it's had. Classic game modes, phenomenal maps, great balancing, and all the fast-paced action you could hope for.

Unreal Tournament 2004 ECE

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: Take what worked for the original Unreal Tournament, update the graphics, throw in more weapons, modes, maps, and a fancier tournament mode, and you get UT2004. It's pretty close to as amazing as the original, in fact.

Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: Imagine Doom, but in a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi setting where you play as secret agent Blake Stone. It's one of those great classic FPS's that got overlooked, but deserves some attention.

SWAT 3: Tactical Game of the Year Edi...

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: While it has a few technical problems and issues with AI (as most tactical FPS's do), SWAT 3 is a fine example of a complex, well-made tactical game doing mostly everything right. Well worth playing for any tactical FPS fan.

Painkiller Black Edition

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: Fast-paced, cleverly-designed, and chock-full of all the mindless action we know and love from classic FPS's, Painkiller reminded FPS fans how much fun simply blasting things to bits with really cool weapons is.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon®

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: Ghost Recon was highly iterative on Rainbow Six, and still managed to be a great tactical FPS. It's more difficult, has bigger environments, and is centered around a fictional war in Georgia, but it definitely has that Rainbow Six feel to it.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six®

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: Rainbow Six was essentially the start of the tactical FPS genre, and to date it's still one of the best around. Challenging, strategic, and surprisingly realistic, it delivers an experience rivaled only by Raven Shield.

Serious Sam: The First Encounter

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: Serious Sam showed us how much fun blasting huge hordes of wacky enemies with goofy weapons in massive environments could be, and is a challenging, well-made FPS to boot. Definitely give it a look.

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: If you get The First Encounter, you pretty much have to get The Second Encounter. They're really quite equal in terms of clever design and fun, but with the levels being centered on ancient Mayan temples instead of ancient Egyptian ones.

or

Far Cry®

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: Far Cry was one of those games that snuck up on us from out of nowhere. The massive, lush environments were amazing at the time, and on top of that, it does everything a great shooter needs to do.

Far Cry® 2: Fortune's Edition

herrorcman's rating:
250

herrorcman says: While it does have a few annoyances (the malaria mechanic being the worst) and it's almost nothing like the original, Far Cry 2 is an enjoyable foray into the minimally-explored open-world FPS. DRM was a huge issue on launch, and this remedies that.

Treat your GOGmix as your child - name it! ;)

Coming up with a cool and descriptive title should be your first priority. Being original is in your best interest - bet you wanna get lots of nice votes, right? Go all crazy if you want, but be sure to keep it civil!

So, what are the ingredients?

Pick a game that belongs in your GOGmix from the list, or find it by typing something in the text field. Relevance is key here - Earthworm Jim doesn't quite fit the "Sexiest heroines of all time" bill now, does it?

Justify your choice... Or not!

OK, so it's not required, but now that you went through the trouble of adding a game, telling everyone why you did it would be a nice finishing touch. After you're done here, add another game, rinse, repeat.
