Europe, 1400 A.D. - The last crusade, which started 6 years before,
ended in a horrible defeat when the crusaders failed to conquer Nikopolis before being reached by the armies of Osmans and Serbs. The dream of conquering Jerusalem is forgotten, and European authorities are well aware that over the coming centuries, they will be submerged into defending themselves against the Osman forces, which have several outposts in
Eastern Europe. The Roman Catholic church is in a state of devastating
dispute and intrigue, and uprisings are clearly just around the corner.
The Guild 2: Pirates of the European Seas is a stand-alone expansion that transforms the game into an even greater experience by adding a huge area including the cities of "The Hanse" located at the shores of the European seas. Sea battles and naval trading are added to the gameplay, and a new campaign mode provides more than 10 hours of additional fun.

The Guild II is an amazing game - nothing else like it out there. Having said that, The Guild II: Renaissance is the most "up to date" and the version that is currently being patched by fans over on the runeforge forums. I suggest waiting for that one to come to GOG or find it elsewhere. If you patch it up with the beta patch on the forums and use some of the fan-mods/patches you'll have a much better experience.

The concept is just phenomenal, the gameplay brilliant. Unfortunately, as has already been mentioned it suffers from bugs. Playing this will give you carpal tunnel (this is actually why I can't play it, it's not just a joke). You're supposed to be able to automate the game but you'll end up clicking so much you'll wreck your hand.
It's still worth getting though. Sure you'll endread more up cursing the bugs and flaws of what would have been your favourite game otherwise but..even flawed, it is a must own.

This is a great game, but unfortunately, is filled with bugs. The economy in the game trashes itself, there are a lot of problems with AI, and there are a host of other bugs.
It's still a game that'll give you hours of fun with it's in depth economic and political strategy (and a little combat) but it'll also disappoint you many times with those bugs.
