Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games

Ok, the graphic was a joke when it was released already. Sure a big reason this game never had the success it deserved. But beside that, this game is a real gem.
A real clever KI makes it possible to play scenarios over and over again without knowing how they react. These mercs you hire have a soul. After all these years i still chuckle when they tell me whats wandering throughread more their mind. Missions are challenging and not only once thanks to the KI. The Editor is very easy to handle and its fun to make your own maps (and you still find loads of them in the internet). And the best of it is the multiplayer mode. Fight your friends forces to the death or play a cooperative campain.
Fun and suspense in big chunks. If id have to choose one game as my all time favorite, this is it.

One of the finest squad-based strategy games ever made by man!

I own the original of this so I'm not in need to buy the gog.com version but this game is without second thought one of my all-time favorites! Sirtech simply knew how to put interesting and varying characters in their games. Some people stated that the graphics are extremely outdated but I disagree wholeheartedly. For me the graphics of this game are one of the finest made duringread more the mid-nineties. They are exactly at the level of detail where they need to be for this kind of game without adding confusion. I like the graphics here even more than the iso graphics of Jagged Alliance 2.
One feature that I also like is that you can give your enemies names (in the scenario editor). Giving them names adds another personal note to the game. This is something that was dropped from JA2.
Other than that this game (and it's prequel) is a cozy turn-based strategy game that you can enjoy while leaning back in your armchair. The MIDI music tootles nicely in the background, characters make funny comments, birds chirp ... overall a very pleasant experience!

Not to be overlooked!

I wasn't sure what to think when I found I has got this game free. At first I thought it looked like a typical bland war RTS, but it proved to be so much more. It's a turn-based strategy game, but I've never played anything like it. The game combines turn-based strategy with light RPG elements, such as being able to choose what weapons and armor you want your mercs to have, as youread more find equipment throughout the maps. The game feels near endless: you have a ton of mercs to recruit (70), but can only have 8 in each mission, meaning you can have a different team in each map, adding some refreshing variety. Each merc even has their own personality, and will often share their thoughts of the situation while on the battlefield. You also have a level editor, making the game last even longer.
Some of the small touches, such as the mercs personalities, make the game feel overall very polished and enjoyable. Simply put, if you are a fan of turn-based strategy games, and are looking for something a bit different from the standard formula, this is a must-have.
