As a Greek I alway liked computer games based in my country's mythology. Invictus is one of them although not 100% accurate as there are a lot of fantasy features (like Arachnes, a heroine never appeared in Greek mythology).
Invictus is a mix of rts and rpg genres. You begin your quest by selecting 2 heroes out of 10 (you can have 4 later) plus some warriors from different typesread more of units (swordsmen, archers, spearmen etc or ever mythological creatures like centaurs). Each hero has his own abilities, strengths and weaknesses.
Each level is a huge map full of cities, quests and beasts to overcome. The gameplay is not something new and runs smoothly. You just have to explore each map, collect helpful items and defeat Poseidon's evil forces. At the end of each level you can purchase new warriors or update the existing ones so that you will be able to overcome the harder levels later.
Overall it's a good game. It's not something new or something that will make you go crazy but it's addictive, fun and will keep you playing for many many hours. After all, a well-made mythological strategy game for %5.99 it's a bargain, isn't it?

I've always been a fan of classical-mythology-themed games, so I was a bit disappointed when I fired this up on my old computer and discovered that the interface for ordering units to take actions was very difficult to use. I only fight with a game for so long before I abandon it for greener pastures and sadly I didn't last long with this one. I think the box and CD are still inread more my hall closet. The artwork is absolutely beautiful. I wish the gameplay lived up to the description.

Volrath expressed very well my feeling about Invictus (°).
I just want to add a technical comment: I am very pleased with GOG quality of the product.
Indeed, I physically bought the game several years ago. But I was never able to finish it because of "access violation" errors whose frequency was increasing while progressing in the game up to a point itread more was no more possible to play. I used the latest patch and over years have tried on several successive computers (Win95, Win98, 3 x XP) - without success.
I recently re-purchased the game from GOG. I was able to play and finish it with only 3-4 errors during the whole game. Well done !
(°) by the way a Latin title for a game about Greek mythology ;-)
