Overview:

The spectre of war is looming over the world of Atlans. The young and courageous Elven ranger, Elhant, must gather an army to prevent his people from being damned by bloodshed and conflict. Elhant will encounter love, hatred, friendship, and betrayal; he will have to survive through blood-shedding clashes and massive battles. Our hero will not fight alone as he is assisted by Lana, the daughter of the elven supreme commander, and her Druid army. Join them as they travel the land of Atlans and fight to save themselves and their people from the power-hungry Necros Horron and his undead horde.

Heroes of Annihilated Empires is a seamless blend of RTS and RPG gameplay in a breathtaking fanstasy world, filled to the brim with elves, dragons, dwarves and ents. On the RTS side, you must build a base, gather resources, and gather an army. If you like a more personal playstyle, Heroes of Annihilated Empires lets you play the part of a hero leading the same forces you collected in the RTS side of the game all the while gaining experience and power and wielding powerful spells.

Review about the release by gog.com

Posted on 2012-06-05 17:52:47 byVereen's avatarVereen:

tl;dr: this release is working great, buy it
Some of you (like I did) may already own and enjoy the game thoroughly as a boxed version.
And maybe (again, like I did) some time ago you tried to play the game again on your brand new computer and found out that you can't play the game anymore because of technical issues you can't resolve unless being Computer-Savyy
The known issuesread more on the steam/boxed version were:
- incompatibilities with modern graphics card
- unable to run with more than 3 Gb Ram used
- Some audio glitches
OH REJOYCE FELLOW WARLORDS!!!
This release is the ultimate release we've all been wanting. The game works just fine out of the package.
Maybe you'll find a "the program needs an elevation" error when you start the game just after the install, but just use the shortcut on your desktop and you'll be fine.
It's another pristine release by Gog.com :D

The Plot..

This game is worth a go for sure. It has some fun, interesting elements to it that I enjoyed seeing combined and brought some life to the experience.
The plot is.. or was, very intriguing. As said in another review, when you finish this game you get the feeling that the creators were just beginning to tell an extremely interesting story. The hints at sci-fi throughout the gameread more really make you start to wonder what is coming around the next corner as far as storyline is concerned.
I remember playing through this game for the first time and when I was finished I just could not wait for the next one to find out what these insanely out of place modern elements were going to mean in this classic fantasy setting. Unfortunately the developers never had a chance to fully realize their dream.. but the game stands on it's own nonetheless.

The story may never be finished but the game is still awesome

A highly enjoayble RTS with original gamplay - Trust me, if you've been passing these games up because many are copy paste, this one is just unique enough to feel like a new experience.
A lot of people previously turned their nose up to this because the story was never followed through in future releases and despite the length of the campaigns, by the end the main plot hadn't evenread more began yet.
But most often I choose game play over story for games - I leave the literature to movies and novels and game play wise Empires has a lot of meat and longevity.
