Guacamelee! Gold Edition is an amazing combination of platformer and fighter, set in a magical Mexican inspired world. Take control of Juan Aquacate, a lowly agave farmer turned superhuman luchador, who battles through lands living and dead to rescue his true love.
Guacamelee! builds upon the classic open-world Metroid-vania style of games by adding a deceivingly deep combat system, a dimension switching mechanic that dynamically changes the level, and local co-operative same-screen multiplayer for the entire story. Guacamelee! blurs the boundaries between fighting and platforming by providing moves that that are useful for both traversal and combat. Gorgeous graphics, tiny chickens, and rooster uppercuts await.

I didn't expect this to end up coming to GOG, but as a previous buyer I can say this is a very charming and colourful game, with delightfully festive music.
As it states in the description, it is a "metroidvania" that plays somewhat like Symphony of the Night done in the style of Shank, and sprinkled with spicy Mexican goodness.
There were a few too many "lol meme" referencesread more for my blood, but they didn't hurt the overall enjoyment of the game. According to Steam, Guacamelee took me about 16 hours (not exactly rushing) to find all of its hidden secrets and achieve the "good ending".
Controller is not necessary but recommended.

I usually have an attention span of 5-10 minutes, I get bored very fast. The pace of the game, the simple story, the progressive introduction of new mechanics in the game makes this one of the best platformers Ive played in recent history. Its not easy nor difficult you just have to think and coordinate.
+ Nice boss encounters
+ Nice soundtrack
+ Creative use of game mechanics

A great art style and soundtrack. Deep and exciting combat system with a suit of special moves and tough enemies that keep things fresh all game long. Tight platforming mechanics. Loads of puzzles and hidden goodies to ensure diving deep into this game is rewarding.
If all this doesn't sound compelling, I don't know what will. Guacamelee is a great 2D action platformer that risesread more far above it's price tag as a heavy hitting game that is oozing style and fun action. Old-school influences are infused with modern style to create something truly stupendous that keeps you engaged the whole way through.
