Deep story, fun game

Avadon is like a game-novel. More than any other RPG I've ever played, there was more reading, more believable characters (along with their ambitions and motivations) and more plot twists.
If you've played some of Spiderweb's other games, you'll recognize most of the graphics and play-style. If not, then you should know that it's an indie game with less-than-awesome graphics. Butread more it's good enough to get you by. Characters are animated, but their paper dolls do not show any of your armor or weapons.
You play in a turn-based environment. You move your character, then you attack. Then it's the next character's turn. While you're doing your move-attack sequence, you also have a limited number of points per map that you can use toward super-powered attacks (mages have spells, warriors have self-heal and head-chopping awesomeness and so forth).
As some say, the game is more "streamlined" and less "hardcore." You should translate that to: "It's near impossible to break your character" and "you'll have more fun with this game" and "you'll be able to spend more time paying attention to the awesome story elements and less time to a boggy interface and player-character design."
There are few sounds and music in this game. You could play it on mute and you wouldn't know the difference.
If you're going to play one old-school RPG this year, make it Baldur's Gate or Planescape or the likes. But if you've got the time to try an indie RPG, there are few better than this gem.

Favorite Spiderweb Game-A lot of fun

Posted on 2013-02-05 11:33:00 bydeathknight1728's avatardeathknight1728:

I first got turned off from Avadon as I played Geneforge 1 and barely made it through the game alive. I looked at this game as very little choices involved in making a character. What I found out was as I played more, I liked Avadon more than any other spiderweb game. Its got a great story like Geneforge, the main difference is that its much easier making a character that more
Out of any game I played, I've never seen such excellent characters/npcs in game. Even Geneforge's NPC's had less depth than characters such as Redbeard who I found to be funny, but with lethal malice and intent.
What I also found out later too is that due to the newer stat/skill system, there are actually a lot more combinations for characters than you may think.
Only good old games can make games like this known by everyone and I would like to thank them for doing this. These games might be dated with graphics, but there is alot of people like me that like this kind of niche.

Pretty good cRPG

I enjoyed Avadon quite a bit. The story gave me a slight Game of Thrones vibe, for anyone who might be interested in that.
I docked one star for the complete lack of music (apart from the title screen), a few minor bugs, and a very linear character abilities tree. I would have liked more choice in what I could spec into, however the game forces you to spend your points on prerequisiteread more skills which eliminate any real room for customization.
Still a solid RPG experience I'm happy to have in my collection.
