How feature complete is it?
Very if you use the nightly builds. They fully support UFO and TFTD.

There only are some infrequent bugfixing changes.

I don't know what Daniel thinks is missing for a new stable build… I'm not sure he knows it himself. It might be a case of perfectionism.
I'm not a pro on the subject, but from what I know is that since (the now outdated) 1.0 there is nothing in the original game that OpenXCom doesn't do. The only differences are in rather obvious improvements, mainly in the UI and controls, while still staying absolutely true to the original, and in stuff that just couldn't be copied 1:1 due to the original not being open-source. The only discussions I've heard here are about the AI not being absolutely the same as the originals, but these discussions usually end with the verdict that the AI is either completely on par with the original or better.

So, I'd say if someone doesn't want to play the vanilla game for nostalgia, 99% of the time it is absolutely recommendable to play OpenXCom instead.

I'm really looking forward to 2.0, I hope it doesn't take much longer now.
Absolutely!
OpenXCom offers so many enhancements to the user interface and high resolution / widescreen support.

I'm having a great time with it, I'm playing with the Final Mod Pack installed. I may play it without mods in the future to experience something closer to the original every once in a while, but OpenXCom will remain my standard installation from now on, it's just too good. :)
Agreed, OpenXcom nightly (it isn't really "nightly") is the only way to play these games. They Run great on Win10x64, too! I run both games at 2560x1440 without a problem. Lots of nice mods and configuration choices--all elective--built in.

Edit: OpenXcom Extended is even better...;)

OpenXcom is absolutely the best way to play this game. Even if you don't want the optional mods installed this still has plenty of bug fixes and engine-limitation fixes. Just google Openxcom vs Xcom.

Personally I like to run the game with the Alloy Interceptor mod known as the Retaliator since it's a logical progression since we get alloy armor.

I also run the shotgun and sniper rifle for some extra variety in the early game.

Mods appear to be inaccessible currently, and the address seems to have changed from openxcom.com to openxcom.org. Nightlies are of course still available and development is ongoing! OpenXcom is the *only* way to play these games today, imo.

OK, thanks!
I was quite surprised how good TFTD is with OpenXcom, compared to dosbox version.

Before few days ago, I played TFTD last time in 2014, when TFTD was not supported yet by OpenXcom, randomly found about OpenXcom TFTD from youtube :D

And unlike told on many places around internet, GoG version (vanilla, not sure if mods are thing that breaks OpenXcom installer game folder detection) works out of box with OpenXcom installer.
