Why decide to join games in development on GOG?

We plan to have a rich, dense and large game, including a lot of replayable content. It is important for us to test these features in real situation, and get feedbacks. Wolcen is a project started a long time ago, driven by passion an we want to create the best gameplay experience possible. We are attached to our project, and are very experienced using the CRYENGINE technology.
The Early Access will also be a great way for us to remains a completely indie team. There is no private investor or publisher behind us, and we want to continue that way to keep a full control on the creative work we do. We want to take risk, bring some new features to the hack and slash genre and discuss with players about the best solution for our game.

Approximately how long will this game be in early access?
You can expect at least 5 hours of non-repetitive gameplay at day 1, and of course, we plan to update the game at least every two weeks.
Since our game includes various way to develop your character, it will allow you to replay the game and randomly generated dungeon using various play style, such as brutal force, vicious strike, fire, frost and lightning magic.
Of course, you can combine any of these skills to customize your build. The fact that elements reacts with each other (fire, lightning, water and ice) also brings a lot of interesting and deep gameplay mechanisms for you to discover.

What do you plan to change during development?
The final version of the game will be available on PC and Linux. It will include the following features:
• Full Coop gameplay.
• Apocalyptic Forms, allowing you to unlock mutation for your character according to your playstyle. Mix up to three of these mutation and shape-shift into that avatar of destruction to destroy your foes!
• Ability to create a dungeon thanks to our housing system, and include enemies captured in the open world for other player to challenge.
• A lot of destroyable environments
• Unlimited randomly generated dungeons, with increasing difficulties each steps!
• Epic boss Fights
• Large open world to explore
• An epic and mysterious story to discover
• Modding support
• Gamepad support

What is the current state of your game?
The current state of the game aims to test the very basics of the gameplay.
You will be able to test the first mission of the storyline, and then fight in randomly generated dungeons, with and increasing difficulty each time to clean a level.
More than 20 skills are available right now, including combos.
Element from skills and environment interact with each other: Lightning spread in water, a frozen target will unfreeze once hit by Fire, and physical attacks deals more damage against frozen enemies !
Beautiful visual effects are triggered by your attacks, bringing an epic feeling to the game!
A lot of content are still using placeholders, and the sound quality is a bit poor, we are aware of that and it will be updated and upgraded really soon!

Will the price change on release day?
We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features. The final price of the game should be about twice the current amount, so it is time to grab copy now!

How can the community participate in the development process?
The community will be involved thanks to a Trello and various polls on our forums. Mostly you will be able to give your opinion about the priority features to come, balance of the game and gameplay mechanics.
If you have any cool ideas new enemies, items or apocalyptic forms, we will gladly read about it on our forum!

Hi there !
Is there anything you want to know in addition of that answer ?:)
We plan to improve the gameplay time during early access by introducing several new replayable systems in our open world, such as random mission and "Dungeon Challenge" - using our housing system to create an actual dungeon for other players to fight. The coop mode will also be added once ready :)

Well, the question is asking how long will it take to finish the game and release the 1.0 version. You answered with a lot of good information about the current state of the game, update frequency, etc. None of which addresses that particular question.

The original question could be read either way. They just answered it as meaning "How long is the game if you download and play it right now, during Early Access?"

I think the things you want to know are "In your current plans, roughly how long will it take to do a single playthrough of the main storyline of the finished game? Ten-20 hours? Thirty hours or more?" and "When is your estimated release date? Two months? Six months? A year?"

There are two questions in the OP:

- Approximately how long will this game be in early access?
- What is the current state of your game?
The first one is maybe little ambiguous (all other in-dev games got the meaning right though). But one of the interpretations makes it duplicate of the other question. It should have been probably asked like this:

Approximately how long will this game remain in early access?
The current answer belongs under "current state of your game". I realize that giving estimates for in-dev project is very tricky - there are plenty examples around of gross underestimates that still deliver solid game in the end. But still... Year? Ten years? Or just no idea?

---

That said, it looks interesting, I'm really tempted...

Do you plan to add character movement using buttons, or it will be left only mouse movement control?

Yuragreat: Do you plan to add character movement using buttons, or it will be left only mouse movement control?
We will add pad control in the future, but no delivery date right now :)
About the time duration of the game, we think about 10-12 hours for the main quest, but we see our main quest as a "tutorial" for what is coming next.
We plan to have several mechanics for replayability, including the ability for player to using the housing system of the game (not yet available) to create a dungeon for other enemies to challenge.
Enemies dropped in your dungeon will of course be captured during the normal game.
Do you plan German language in the finished game?

How long a game will be indevelopment is the same kind of question as how long is a piece of string, twice the distance from the middle to an end. Getting tied into statements of we will release on "whenever" will suddenly become written in stone and not allow for hiccups along the way.

Even labling coop gameplay as full will potentially have backlash from people who define full as something different.

Anyway, there was a hefty patch today and I was wondering if patch notes will be put onto a sticky here on the gog forums or will we have to check elsewhere, steam, games own website, etc?

Ughhh... you still haven't answered the original question yet. Approximately how long, by your best guess, will this game be in Alpha/Beta state? I don't know why you keep dodging this. I was going to purchase tonight, but I won't now because of this sketchy behavior of not answering and dodging this question. This is not a good way to earn people's trust. If you can just come back with any kind of answer, I'll probably buy a copy.

Appears to have been a language issue. A bit earlier for pitchforks though. Doesn't GOG have fluent French speakers on staff?

Release date. That is the question.

Ah sorry !
Alpha state is planned for about 7/8 months.
Then, we will enter Beta for at least 6 month.
We plan to have an Early Access perriod of about 12 to 15 month in total :)

Thank you, that's what we wanted to know. Best of luck, this game is looking awesome, definitely the best looking ARPG around currently.

Agreed, thanks to the dev, even if I bought it even before knowing the planned release. And thanks to Gydion for finally overcoming the language barrier :)

Not sure if it is BEST looking, Grim Dawn looks very nice too and there is a lot of thought in building the world. But it is definitely at the top. And the apocalyptic mutations could add something fresh to the genre.
