While we're at it - isn't there a save/load mod for Wiz6/7?
It's just a bit annoying having to quit the game everytime I want to load.
Also, loading straight from the combat would be even more awesome :) Right now when I feel my party is gonna be wiped out, the fastest way is to alt-tab to Windows, quit the game and restart. Which is just too old-school for my tastes :)

MrPopo: I was originally trying to find something that would let me just set the stats I needed for the classes I wanted, but then I noticed that Cosmic Forge has a "cheat" to increase the average random roll. When I applied that I was able to get every character I wanted in a couple of rolls (which included a Ninja) and it left things feeling "fair".
I've had trouble getting Cosmic Forge to work with Wizardry Gold. I've tried applying the 'resting' patch and it says:

'Failed to get length of the file c:\GOG Games\Wizardry 6 and 7\Wizardry 7 Gold\wizard.exe'

Details:
The System cannot find the file specified

Any thoughts?

Just to add: when I start up cosmic forge it says 'Failed to load game information;

It's clearly thinking it isnt being pointed to the correct location, but it loads the wiz 7 editor (as opposed to another version) and I can access all the editors and change stuff, it just doesnt save at all

with the mad god's editor I got the same result. Wizedit gave me probs due to my rig being 64 bit.
Argh.
I used bane edit through dosbox to edit my characters.

Just remember to amend your file path to what doz box calls it.

ie i couldn't mount "d:\Wizardry 6 and 7\Wizardry 6\wizard.exe'

but when i mounted d:\ i noticed ot cut down the directory names to 8 digits

re D:\wizard~1\wizard~1\wizard.exe
Hi, I would like to edit my Wiz 7 save game files as well.

But, the link provided above and all the links I have found to Wiz 7 editors do not run in 64bit Windows 7.
I tried compatibility mode, didn't work.
I looked into running a virtual Win XP emulator overtop Win 7, but I cant install that with the home version :(

Does anyone have a link to an editor that works on 64bit Win 7?

I had to resort to Hex editing my files to change the attributes but would rather use an editor and I want to get back some items I lost.

Thanks!

WizEdit works great but you have to run the program through Dosbox to get around the 64bit requirement.

DosBox is not necessary. Just right click on the .exe and set compatibility mode to Windows XP.
I hope that someone here can help me for I keep trying to use banefix in DOSbox but all it does is nothing. Here is how I have to setting it up G>banefix G:\GOG_Games\Wizardry_6\savegame.dbs
G happens to be my external Hard Drive that i have the Wizardry games saved to but like I said it just stops after setting that up and doing banefix.exe it just leaves me with the blinking "cursor" and I can not type anything (and yes it has not started the banefix program)

Edit 10/19/2015: Never mind I was trying to do it how it said in the notes that came with it but turns out all i needed to do was have banefix in the same folder as my savgame.dbs and do banefix g:\savegame.dbs -.-

Whenever I use banefix to edit my character I keep getting a "couldn't open mod file" error. I'm not sure how to bypass this

edit: I figured out that I had to change the modfile directory. Now, when ever I load the game, my mod file won't show up, and it's loading off of the gamesave.dbs file (original file)

Only recently got back to playing the series, and like others, it's tiresome having to start from scratch. So these cheats are a handy jump-start to re-experience the story without the grinding the first time through.

Anyway!

I had similar problems in that 'banefix' failed to save the file. The readme helps though. The command format (as an example) is:

banefix savegame.dbs moddedsave.dbs

It edits savegame.dbs and saves the modified savegame as moddedsave.dbs.

What you then have to do is rename your original save, and rename or copy the modified save to savegame.dbs. Like below:

rename savegame.dbs savebak.dbs
rename moddedsave.dbs savegame.dbs

That should do what people want.

jeffreydean1: I used BaneEdit and now Wizardry 6 crashed every time when going between the initial logo and the main menu.

Is this happening to anyone else?

GregT_314: (EDITED) I used BaneEdit to edit my savegame, including changing attributes and deleting items from a character's swag, and the game worked fine afterwards.

It's possible you've made other edits which cause problems but it's more likely that you've somehow damaged your installation while experimenting and trying to find a good editor.

If I had to bet, I'd say when outputting from BaneEdit you've accidentally saved over Scenario.dbs instead of Savegame.dbs. (Check the file sizes, Scenario should about 185 KB - if it's closer to 50, I've hit the nail on the head.)

Back up your Savegame.dbs, uninstall, reinstall, and slot your savegame back in, and see if it works.

Hi,

Seems like baneedit has dissappeared from the whole internet. Can anyone upload it anywhere?

Thank you so much! I took like five backups
I am looking for Baneedit as well.

But i couldn't find a working download link for hours on Google...

Could someone maybe send me the file (thomas-korte@gmx.de) or provide a link?

I would be extremely grateful to get it!
