ASNZern: Works nicely. Awesome. Thanks !
On a side note, is it possible to run this in Windowed Mode ?
I'd like to be able to browse the internet at the same time for Trade Routes or where to go next ;P
Thanks glad you enjoy it!

We are planning to add windowed mode, in fact it is halfway done but it was disabled since it has a few issues. Still this is definitely going to happen, we are in the process of tweaking a few aspects of the patch, so I estimate it will maybe be included next release or two releases from now.

The patch works and I can play using my joystick and keyboard. The only thing is when I try to end the game by using alt-x and then hit y my computer freezes. I need to shut it down and reboot.

If I play using DOS box the +/- keys don't work. All the other do. :(
(Rant Removed)

Nevermind, I completely DERPd. It's fixed now.

That's strange... but i'll try to reproduce the issue and find a cause. What's the specs for your machine, by the way?

Thanks!
OK! The patch works fine but I'd like to to set windowed mode. Is it possible?

4th post above you talks about them working on window mode patch

mbrito: Where do you have P2 installed? If you have it installed on a drive other than C: you may have to edit DARK.FIX (which is our equivalent to DARK.CFG).

Other than that, post your machine specs here and we'll try to help.

Nergal01: Hm, running darkfix.exe does nothing for me. With the recommended compatibility settings, he screen goes black for a split second and then it's back to the desktop.

I´ve got the same problem. But I do not understand what I have to edit on DARK.FIX ?
Please help me, thx!

EDIT: found the solution, patch works great. Thanks a lot to the creators!

Just tried it out on my Win7 Netbook (1.8ghz, 2GB RAM, Intel GFX)

Got 3 'frames' of the intro movie in slo-mo, then CTD with no error message. Left me with an endlessly rotating cursor (y'know, the Win7 'loading' circle thing) forcing me to reboot. Same happens regardless of compatibility settings.

Will try it out on my WinXP gaming rig when I get home.

Despite lack of success, I'm happy and grateful seeing someone try to resurrect this FUBAR game. I've had it since the original launch day and the damn thing has never worked properly... would be great to actually play & finish it someday.
Thanks for the feedback Bovrillor! Sorry it did not work out for you though.

After some more testing, I can confirm that there are indeed performance issues on slower machines. I dug out my old WinXP EeePC 901 for testing (Intel Atom, 1GHz, 1GB RAM) and, although the issues were not as serious (it did not crash at least), it was indeed noticeably slower.

I'm currently tweaking the patch a bit more though, so hopefully it will behave better on future releases!

No problem!

I just dug out my gaming rig (Dual Core 3.8Ghz, 2GB RAM, WinXP) and got it all installed. Good news - video playback was indeed fixed and de-interlaced, game speed was stable and I didn't encounter any crashing. Great stuff! Win95 compatibility was required to enable spaceflight music.

Only problem was that it wouldn't recognise input from any of my joysticks. I tried a generic USB controller (Logitech Rumblepad 2, to be precise) and a Playstation 2 Controller with a USB converter plug. I can understand why there might be axis-related issues, but even button inputs weren't recognised. This puzzles me o.0 Both controllers work fine with Freespace 1&2

I hope there's a solution for that, since I'm no use with a mouse lol. The patch is looking really strong though - Privateer 2 didn't work this well at release! Good job mate.

edit: @Baggins, the 'email missions' can be accessed from any disc. There may be a point of no return somewhere near the end, I never got that far. They still occur on disc 3.

Thanks Bov.
Hello lads and ladies.

I have an issue with the patch, which I believe is not resolved yet.

Here is what I did and happens.
- installed the game
- installed (c/p, win95 mode on Darkfix.exe, altered Dark.fix's first two lines to "g:" and "G:\Spiele\Privateer 2 - The Darkening" w/o the quotes)
- start the DARKFIX.EXE
- Videos are running without interlace (Brillant Job!)
- after the cutscene "entering the Hangar" the screen turns black, I hear the windows failure Beep and I totally lost control.

To solve it I have to either restart by hard reset or hit ctrlaltdel switch to another user, kill the game process in task manager and swith back to my game account.

Anyways.
superb work so far.
I am sure this happens due to my noobyness and of course

any answer is appreciated. :)

so long

Tried the patch. right after the Origin splash FMV, the game just froze and didn't proceed. I made sure my game was installed in C:\GOG Games\Privateer 2 - The Darkening
