Beta download located here for those interested!
I was just going to come here and mention that I had just put up the update! :) Anyway, the patch is live.

Of note we did go with a side-by-side patch, so your GOG install is preserved. Please run darkfix.exe instead to play the patched version.

I just bought the game here about 20 minutes ago. You guys' timing is perfect. I do believe I'm going to have a Bex to celebrate.
Very cool. But any way to get in-flight music working?

Yes... I forgot to include it in the patch notes, but you have to set the compatibility mode of Darkfix.exe to win95 or Win98 to get MIDI working. I had some minor issues exiting the game in win95 compatibiily mind you... had to tab out and end process. If you have issues please make note of them and leave a message over at WCNews and we'll try and cover as many fixes as we can.

Just tried the patch. So far no problems, speed seems to be fine, no crackling sound, no difficulties exiting the game using Win95 mode and seeing the cutscenes without interlacing was just great!

This patch is a complete fraud, it says on the wcnews.com site that one should set the compatibility mode to Win85 which I can't find!
This is worthless, shame on you!

End of random-internet-gamer impression, sorry about that :)

Joke aside I remember being hooking instantly when I first installed this game back in the days, despite the game crashing quite often. After having lost my original box I grabbed another one off eBay last year and I think my only gripes when re-installing were about the crashes and the video quality.

It seems like once again Wing Commander CIC made my dreams come true, thanks so much for that :)
Hm, running darkfix.exe does nothing for me. With the recommended compatibility settings, he screen goes black for a split second and then it's back to the desktop.
Where do you have P2 installed? If you have it installed on a drive other than C: you may have to edit DARK.FIX (which is our equivalent to DARK.CFG).

Other than that, post your machine specs here and we'll try to help.

That might be it. It's installed on my D: drive. I'll try the solution and get back to you on this.

EDIT: Yep that was the problem right there. Works alright now. Thx for your help. :)

LOL, thanks! Nice catch. I fixed the update text.
I wonder if Gog can incorporate these fixes into the install (plus option to switch between interlace and deinterlace)?

Hopefully later versions can fix it to have better compatibility with newer windows, to avoid the whole having to force win95/98 modes manually (to fix sound).
Warning - DosBox newbie post ahead

Computer Science major, so I'll understand what you say, but I'm not familiar woth GOG's using of DosBox or DosBox in general. I probably missed a simple line in some .cfg file.

Installed GOG's game, ran from shortcut, ran OK w/ black bars in movies (no joystick support for my Logitech Extreme 3d pro, tho)
Copied over patch, ran from shortcut, still black bars.
edited dosbox_privateer2_single.conf to point to darkfix, black screen flashes, and nothing.
edited dosbox_privateer2_single.conf and inserted a "pause" command before exit, and the black screen stays up with the message "This is a Windows 95 executable".

Machine Info:
Win 7, 64bit
NVidia video
Modern Intel Processor
Installation folder: I:\Installs\GOG\Privateer 2 - The Darkening

- I would prefer to NOT have to install onto my C drive, as it's a small SSD, but if i need to, I will. I have been seriously wanting to play this game for a while.
- Bonus- I still have the original Deluxe Edition disks, if they are needed for some reason.

Just don't start it with the shortcut. Instead start it with darkfix.exe ;)
Yup, changing the DARK.FIX to point to I: and launching directly from DARKFIX.EXE did the trick. Thank you, Silver83!

But it's still not recognizing my joystick.

I changed my properties of the stick to be recognized in older games as itself, and ]I changed my properties of the stick to be recognized in older games as itself, and edited the dark.fix to read:

I:.
JoyOn 1
ThrottleOn 1
Joy 1
Joy Dead 0.150000
Joy cx 59
Joy cy 68
Joy lx 5
Joy ly 5
Joy rx 134
Joy ry 152
Joy2 0
Joy2 cy 0
Joy2 ly 0
Joy2 ry 0

Any quick fixes?
