I installed Ubuntu to get this to work most easily, and after getting the appropriate i386 architecture & libraries set up, I now end up with:
<Prompt>$ ./start.sh
Running Wasteland 2
Set current directory to <home>/GOG-DL/Wasteland 2/game
Found path: <home>/GOG-DL/Wasteland 2/game/WL2
Mono path[0] = '<home>/GOG-DL/Wasteland 2/game/WL2_Data/Managed'
Mono path[1] = '<home>/GOG-DL/Wasteland 2/game/WL2_Data/Mono'
Mono config path = '<home>/GOG-DL/Wasteland 2/game/WL2_Data/Mono/etc'
support/gog_com.shlib: line 199: 2371 Aborted (core dumped) ./"${bin_64}"

or trying to launch it without the script:
<Prompt>$ ./game/WL2
Set current directory to <home>/GOG-DL/Wasteland 2
Found path: <home>/GOG-DL/Wasteland 2/game/WL2
Mono path[0] = '<home>/GOG-DL/Wasteland 2/game/WL2_Data/Managed'
Mono path[1] = '<home>/GOG-DL/Wasteland 2/game/WL2_Data/Mono'
Mono config path = '<home>/GOG-DL/Wasteland 2/game/WL2_Data/Mono/etc'
Aborted (core dumped)

The computer does meet the required specs, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong -- any clues or suggestions would be appreciated. Tried using wine, but that failed during the install. Might try again if I can figure out which wine configuration pieces to tweak. Didn't note that error, it was a window or screen allocation insufficiency if memory serves.

Thank you.

p.s. Further information from root run & Stacktrace below. It's above my head. -C

Could you try to remove (or rename) the lib/libstdc++.so.6 file from the game folder, to force use of the system's libstdc++ ? I had to do that to get the game working.

Else, what graphical drivers stack are you using ? What does "glxinfo | grep OpenGL.*string" say (or just the beginning of glxinfo) ?

Edit: could you also include the content of $HOME/.config/unity3d/inXile/Wasteland2/Player.log ?

First off: Thank you for the reply, and the assistance.

Renaming the libraries didn't help.

GLX info:
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 9600 GT/PCIe/SSE2
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 331.38
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 331.38
OpenGL shading language version string: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler

~/.config/.../Player.log is the same as my 2nd posting, save that I've obfuscated my username / directory structure a bit; and since the Player.log wasn't from a root attempt, gdb fails to attach to the process.

I don't know how to read these types of error messages. Should I be looking for:
1) The 386 libraries are not being picked up correctly and the 64bit ones are interfering;
2) The lack of Arial.ttf / shaders indicating that the itnernals are not all there;
3) The resize issues indicate that my graphics card / drivers are screwed up? (Resolution should be 1920 x 1200.)

In case it helps, libraries all seem to exist:

Seems your card is a "9th generation" NVidia, while the game says minimal config is GTX 260 which is "10th generation", so maybe it just can't work :(

I don't know that much about NVidia cards, but I fear that might be the issue... do you have any more recent GFX card to try with ?
Ouch; I was looking at the 512M memory -- didn't catch the generation requirement. No, this is my only machine. Well, if it's unplayable, it's a waste of money until / unless I buy another machine I guess.

Thank you for the help! I'll try posting on InXile-Entertainment, see if they have any suggestions as to whether this card can be amde to work.

I'm not a linux user but I can attest that a 9000-series card is not necessarily unable to run the game. I know there is a difference between the GT and GTX lines within each series (some shady marketing tactics) but I don't think the graphics card is so terrible it can't launch the game or that the game somehow rejects it. I don't know about linux drivers though, so maybe the card is not going to work through linux with this game. Just saying it is not strictly a generational thing.
I appreciate. Unfortuantely, I'm not savvy enough to figure out how. I'm at a loss for how to proceed; the traces I've run don't point to an obvious library or similar issue, which doesn't exclude that as the problem, but means I don't currently see what the problem that needs addressing is. I'll give it some time to see if anyone with greater expertise here, or at inxile's board, weighs in with suggestions. Otherwise, I'll pack the game into backups for next time I upgrade hardware. I'm afraid one weekend filled with frustration to no success is all I'm willing to give at this time. The libraries appear to be right, the NVidia software says the drivers are working... but whether everything is really meshing I don't know. Nor how to test. I didn't see anything in my logs that indicated the source either, but my knowledge may not be deep enough.

Tried running it (blindly w/ continue at each stop) in gdb:

I had the same problem on Ubuntu 14.04.1, after installing the dependencies it continued.

I managed to solved it re-installing the fglrx driver (I now yours it's nvidia), and using the manual method instead the repositories.

This was weird because fglrxinfo and the drivers were actually working on other games, so it could be something like that. Good luck!
Interesting! I greatly appreciate the idea; but I'm not sure which driver that would be as an equivalent. I've tried it with the proprietary 304, 338, and the nouveau drivers. No luck.

Could be my hardware being less than spec; or more likely that I have a driver issue somewhere, but I can't tell. And error messages aren't even what they used to be, and they never were very good. (I might need a -verbose w/ auto-linking to packages & a big honkin' hammer hitting me in the head.)

Will try to review video package drivers more later this week, or across the weekend.

pablox_cl: I had the same problem on Ubuntu 14.04.1, after installing the dependencies it continued.

If it's the GPU, I'll literally send you my AMD card for the cost of shipping. I'm getting a new GPU and as such will be doating or scrapping it.

But, I do know that it does perfectly fine on the game, it's just 6 or so years old, so it's nothing to write home about. On the bright side, it works well with Blood 2 if you have that and it's crashing out immediately.
Thank you very much. However, when you get the new card (and have gotten in proved out for yourself) I'm sure you can find someone (or some group who will find someone) who needs it more. If it's a hardware thing, I'll rebuild the rig. I could use an ssd hard-drive so my boot- and loadtimes are faster anyway. Sometimes it takes whole minutes for me to start browsing news & nonsense.

Claimant:
I'll have no trouble getting rid of it. But, if you weren't ready to get a new system, it's tough to get a card for under $10.
I have same problem here. So, Claimant, did you find a solution?

Claimant: Tried using wine, but that failed during the install.
Ah! What did I just read?

What exactly failed? Did you slopped it on your keyboard?

Alcohol does not solve all problems!

Now to the problem :D

Looks like you have a segmentation fault in thread 1 (first log).
This basically means that your program tried to read or change memory area that was deallocated by it. The operating system sent a signal (SIGSEGV, signal, segmentation fault) to the application. This can be basically anything you can imagine :-7

The problem is, that the stack is maybe not complete or corrupt as the log says. The stack log is only usefull if you have a memory dump at the moment, so you can check what lib file or executable the offset was at the moment. And to make any sense of it you would need to spent some time to figure out the cause. Best bet is actually runtime debugging ^^.

But if your lucky it might give clues to what might be the prob to spare this debugging ;P
