Greetings Fellow GOG Players,
On my first play through of Redemption - a game I wanted to play when it was first released - I can't help find myself particularly frustrated with some REALLY ham-handed decisions by the developers. One such issue is my strong desire to re-bind some of the keys.
It seems to me this game could have benefited from easier access to the pause button to issue orders and to assess the situation on the battlefield. I'd really like to rebind the pause button to the space bar, and then rebind the spacebar's function to another key.
However, after extensive searching I have yet to find a way to do this. Does anyone know of a way to do this? Please tell me yes, and if so, how do you do it?
Thank you in advance
Cheers,
BoP

Unfortunately it looks like the keys are hardcoded and cannot be remapped. I ended up finishing the game as they were, took some getting used to but it's possible :)

One possible solution I believe is to remap them externally with a utility like AutoHotKey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) ; I have not tried this method myself however.
I did use AutoHotkey and it works out for all the hotkeys but not for Pause.
On my keyboard (qwerty from england) my pause is Pause Break and since then, you cant remap this hotkey.
There is but one method to remap it, I didnt try it, its to manually alter the windows registry. Thing is, its permanent, so, if you do, you might want to save the old registry entries etc. etc.
BORING.

Once again if you got Pause Break on your keyboard you're screwed whatever the program that you use from autohotkey to sharpkey etc.
You can check on wikipedia the explanation.

But, what I did, is that I maped all the other hotkeys that I used the most near my Pause Break hotkey.
So I had mapped escape (mostly for quick saving), space (to skip some dialogues that I know or to order stop when frenzy feeding, also the hotkeys for inventory and another one that I dont remember).

If you want further indications on how to do that, just tell me ill gladly explain you (its really easy).

Azerty users might be able to map Pause to any other hotkey! Since they dont have Pause Break.
I didn't know there was a pause button, lol. Believe it or not, I didn't have too much trouble playing it through. There were only 2 monsters I found extraordinarily difficult- the Tsmece (? sp) boss. At whom I threw plague winds (as scrolls), and fire at. And the werewolf (that I didn't beat).
Necro time.

I just dusted this one off, and the first thing I wanted to do was remap pause to space!

Anyone every find a way?

Should change your login name to Necrocorricon ;)

But in all seriousness, no, I have not come across any other solution other than what Sloul suggested, which is using AutoHotkey to remap keys.

If anyone else knows something, feel free to fill in.

Good luck!

Can it be as simple as using your keyboard software (assuming you have a gaming keyboard)?

Yes that too would be an alternate solution, but - naturally - your keyboard's software (if any) would have to support it.
I'm using my mouse macro software to remap pause key to an extra mouse button as well as camera rotation (X). Game plays better now that I can move more freely, and mistakes happen less when I can pause without reach all the way across the keyboard... heh.

[edit] I was also going to suggest using Xpadder to turn your keyboard into a virtual controller. I think it can be done and the only thing you would have to do is swap functions for pause, and the camera controls to make the thing feel more like an MMORPG. I may try it myself later since I still have the program, so I'll repost if it works for me.

The config file can be found in the "unofficial patch/cfg" directory. Edit that to change your keys to what you want and save. Hope this helps!
AutoHotkey:
NumPad5::SendInput, {break}
Remapping Pause/Break to NumPad 5.

If anyone still interested.

That helped. Thanks, mate!
Also, if it doesn't work, try running the script as admin.
