Whether I start UW1 from GOG or Desktop it crashes my computer. The PC does not respond to ctrl-alt-del or anything else.

From GOG the screen freezes and from desktop the screen goes black first before freezing. The only way out is to switch off the PC.

The PC freezes even if I right click on the icon on desktop and select properties.

The pc is a laptop running Vista Home Premium and UAC is disabled.

Help!

BTW runs fine on my Win 7 desktop but bought it to play on the laptop.

Thanks in advance!

Disable fullscreen or try a different graphic mode. There should be config tool in Menu Start->GOG.com ->[game]
And never run DOSBox game directly from the directory. Use GOG shortcuts.

Cool TY. Yes fullscreen is the problem. Now I know that is there anyway of getting it to run in fullscreen? Changing settings etc

Does the game freeze (while fullscreen) in all graphic modes or is there any difference between them?

Only overlay and opengl work and neither will work in fullscreen.

Tried windowed at native resolution but that also crashes

Both video card drivers & DirectX9 are up to date? What are your scaling options?
(you can check under video card control panel, depending on what GPU you have)
I wish I could reproduce that crash but don't have Ultima yet. ><

Just using normal x2 scaling at the moment. Will update video card driver but surely any driver should run a game from 1992 :)

I mean your GPU scaling (i.e. under Nvdia control panel or ATI Catalyst), not DOSBox configuration.

Regarding drivers - not really. DOSBox uses newer video cards' capabilities in emulation. That's why DirectX and drivers do matter.
Hi

Thanks for all your help Thiev.

Updated drivers and directx plus I added Dosbox to my Firewall except list.

I did this all at once so not sure which one worked but I now have full screen :)
