Since this is one of my favorite games of all time, I would like to share my work for those who have been crying out to be able to play this game at higher resolutions.

LINK: UFO: Aftershock Resolution Fixes for All Resolutions

Credit to Khalan for inspiring me to do this and for proving that it is possible. The 1920x1080 mod is his, the rest are mine; Collected in one place for convenience.

UPDATE 12/10/2012: These widescreen patches seem only to work with either retail (after the patches) or with the GoG.com install. The Gamersgate install doesn't seem to work.

Thanks SelkathGuy!

As my 1920*1080 monitor is 21'5, I use 144DPI fonts. So with the UFOAS_Resolution1920x1080, fonts should be scaled to 1.5, and Squad screen which is not made bigger is too small, like shown on your last screenshot http://70.40.217.138/UFOAS/UFOASresmod6.png.
So I'll use(didn't try yet) your 1600x900 (which is 16:9 like 1920x1080).

Problem: Is that at last compatible with the last 1.3 patch (fanpatch which can be downloaded on official forum)? http://www.ufo-aftershock.com/pages/support.html#patches

Yes, at least as far as I can tell. That's what I've got installed at least, and it appears to be compatible. As for the Squad screen and some others, they are very UI subelement -heavy. This means it's almost entirely butttons and scroll bars and things that are shared across other screens, and you really don't want to go around resizing those. I may look into it and see if i can make a texture / UI mod that will make it work though.
Your UFO.exe shows 1.2 ingame, not 1.3 (top right of welcome screen).
Too, as I use 144DPI fonts, the small windows are not well placed (the one telling what region is in the middle of my geosphere screen)
I would gladly test, but based on 1.3, a 1366x768 mod (16:9 for my 1920x1080 monitor), so I don't have black borders save for the squad screen (to right and left, but no longer to top and bottom also).
I think for the 1.3 compatibility, we must ask to Khalan...

I will fix it for 1.3
Done. Take a look

I also added a v3.0 for your 1366x768 resolution. As for your DPI issue, I'm afraid I can't fix that.

Thanks! But in Squad screen, the soldiers are too big in the center window and we can't see their head. And when I try to launch a mission, it stops the game with error (CTD).
You should call them for version 1.21 or 1.3 (not 2.1 / 3.0)

My apologies, I dont know what i was thinking with the filenames. I'm just not on my game this week. Yeah I've got that problem with the big soldiers, too, but only in 1.3 not in 1.21. Not sure whats going on there. But I am able to play it fine on mine other than the big squad guys.

I tried the 1.3 1920 patch and when I start the game I get a black screen immediatly and nothing else happens, no reaction to any keys, only reset button possible.
I got the game from gamersgate, applied the 1.3 patch.
Is there anything else I need to set or change, maybe graphics card settings or something?

I would go into your game directory, backup your profile, and blow away the Profiles folder, and try starting the game again. That should clear settings if its a settings issue. If that doesnt work, reinstall the game, apply the 1.2 patch, then 1.21, then 1.3, then mine. Should work.
You're a lifesaver - well, slightly over-dramatic, but you know what I mean! I'd all but given up on Aftershock and was about to uninstall it, when I came across the link to your WS mod. Works like a charm and now I have the game back again. Many thanks indeed selkathguy.
Hrm I cant get it to work, always black screen, tried the profile ting and messing with graphics card settings. Must be something different with the gamersgate version, it starts with 1.20, so I could only apply 1.21 and 1.3.
Anyway, game is awesome even without highres, still playing it, now with ACM 2.0 mod.

Hmm. Did you have any other mods installed when you tried the widescreen patch? I have not tested it with other mods installed, unfortunately.
Could you do a 1280 x 1024? That is a really common resolution for desktops and what I play most games at, so I am pretty sure it would be a popular one. Also, does anyone know if a camera mod exists anywhere to allow closer zooms? Aftermath has one and it improves the game greatly for me, but I think that Aftershock would look even better because the graphics and camera mode are higher quality to begin with.

I can't believe I missed 1280x1024. I'll get on that as soon as I can. Some of my monitors are on 1280x1024 as well. I'll do this one first and then that oddball 1280x800 resolution. Not sure when exactly I'll have it up but when I do I will post here and try to reply to your email.
