nudel: Make sure that the tombeng.bin is in the same folder as game.dat.
Also do not rename it to game.gog.

Game.dat is essentially just a track list. It points to the mp3 files in the TR folder. tombeng.cue on the other hand links to the tracks contained in tombeng.bin. Replacing game.dat with this will simply make dosbox use the new tracks.
tombeng.bin is not even on my system. I stalled VDM sound and then the tomb/UB installer but when it comes to finding tombeng.bin in the c:/ tombraid folder its not there. Not even when i stop hiding systems files.

Is the TR 1+2+3 a new package?

Where am i going wrong?
I have done most of what It said but I didn't put the data folder In I put all the stuff In the data folder In though and I can't delete tomb.exe or rename the other two as well ~.~
Personally, I like playing without the ingame music. For a game like this that has lots of exploring, it's not really needed.

I couldn't disagree more to be honest : the music in the PS version of Tomb Raider 1 created at least 35% of the amazing atmosphere of the game . The other 65% was created by the (at the time) beautiful graphics, the variety (in terms of appearance) of the levels and the puzzles. It's hard to put into words what made the original Tomb Raider so special but if you take out the music you ruin the game in my opinion.

I'm a huge fan of GOG but buying Tomb Raider 1+2+3 is my biggest mistake so far, even though it only cost me $2.99. I bought this pack because I wanted a nostalgia trip, but I needed the following :

1. Higher resolutions (my monitor is 16 : 9)
2. In-game music (as in the PlayStation version). If this isn't included then just forget it basically.
3. The extra levels. After 17 years you would like to think that these would now be free as a matter of course.
4. Easily configurable controls. Ahem, ahem, ahem.

This is easily the most epic fail by GOG so far in my experience. This is just so far from being playable "out of the box" and the solutions are not easily comprehensible to me. This is not good enough to be honest : this is double facepalm material. I still love GOG though because I have bought 42 titles so far and 37 of them are working perfectly and I just like GOG and the idea behind it.
Okay, I tried the fix, even using notepad to save the file in the proper format...and now every time I try to run the game, I get a BSOD that forces my computer to reboot. And now it won't work at all. I've completely uninstalled both copies of the game and reinstalled the GOG version, and it still gives me a BSOD when I try to boot it.
I followed the instructions in the first post and all I get when starting the first level after the main menu is a black screen and the sound of what sounds like a dot matrix printer. Nothing happens and I have to Alt-Task to close the game.

EDIT

Maybe having installed the game to drive E is the problem? My C drive is an SSD I don't install games on it, it's only for the OS.

How do you combine this music with the "Guide to adding Shadow of the Cat and Unfinished Business to Tomb Raider 1" in the other thread above?

That was never released for the Playstation.

In your case take a look at this guide: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=118984427. All you need now is in the following steps: "Downloading the required file", "Adding the Playstation music" and "Cleaning up unused files".
I used both guides and everything is working perfectly.
Hello, just wanted to know, does adding the ingame musics will i be able to keep my game saves ? I'm already halfway in the game so i wouldn't want lose my progression. Thank You.

Hi everybody.

I thought I'd drop by to let anyone potentially interested know I just made a patch to address this issue:

if you want to try to play Tomb Raider I and UB via Gog, but directly through this installer of mine which has been quoted here in this very thread on page 1 in post #1, things won't work since of course the original 1996 Core cdrom will not be detected.
So I made up this patch meant as a workaround to let all Gog TRI players be validated by the installer at runtime as the perfectly valid owners of the gamethat they are.

Of course, you'll have to have the Gog version of TRI normally installed.
Then you get the 1.6 installer, run it and when it's done, disregard the default shortcuts it creates because they won't work.
Now you get this patch, unzip and use the new "Play Tomb Raider.." shortcuts to play TRI and UB aka Gold without any further action.

Please notice that I recommend to always run these shortcuts as an administrator.
To do so, you can right-click on the executable file name in a Windows Explorer window and click "Run as administrator".

It's just a couple of shortcut files cum a bunch of ad hoc routines which you are to extract to wherever you like. You can pick the most secluded nested sub-sub-sub-folder you can think of, it makes no difference since they'll always know their way around to their target.
When you run the shortcuts (one for Tomb Raider I and one for Unfinished Business) I made sure they sequentially start searching for a successful installation of GOG (or STEAM or SUPERBUNDLE) editions of Tomb Raider I.
You can have only one of them or two or even all of them, again it doesn't make any difference.
When at least one is found, the installer can fulfill its duty effectively running the games.

To get the patch:
EDIT
for some reason it seems I'm definitely unable to post any link here at this moment (?)
you can search tombraiderhub dot com | tech support for this compatibility patch anyway

those interested drop in and leave a msg.

HOW I ADDED MUSIC (seems working):

I just downloaded the full TB soundtrack from here http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/soundtrack/

Put all those mp3 in the "Tomb Raider 1" folder, and renamed them "01.mp3", "02.mp3", etc. making a backup of the original ones.

Then I started the game and the music were playing... there was only a problem in the quality

So, I converted all those mp3 to 128 kbps and 44.1 khz (with a free converter named fre:ac)

Now the music is perfect in game, and I have not fiddled with executables and configurations at all.

I still have to play the entire game so I don't know if all the 64 tracks will be automatically used, and because I never played the PS1 version I can't do comparison.

if someone who played the PS1 version can try this, should tell if all is working correctly

EDIT:

The tracks are not in the correct order, and some spoken tracks are used for cinematics in PS1 and not on PC ... so this is not a solution

thanks for this nudel, very helpful and cool : )
This worked fantastically, but i cant play TR1 from GOG as the Game goes into a Black Screen when i say New Game.

Sure TR1 works in Safe Mode, but the Graphics are then Horrible.

So in a nutshell, whats the Point in Downloading the Full TR1 Game with the Unfinished Business Levels if the Main Game wont work.
If GOG adds the soundtracks to the bonus content, I'll buy the game^^
