Download the TR1 & UB setup v1.6 from http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1_adv.html. It will install to C:\tombraider. Don't try to run anything, it won't work without the original cd.
Instead, if C:\gog is where you installed the gog version of TR1, copy tombeng.bin and tombeng.cue from C:\tombraider to C:\gog\Tomb Raider 1. Delete game.dat from c:\gog\Tomb Raider 1 and rename tombeng.cue to game.dat.
Then copy tomb3dfx.exe, tombub.exe as well as the DATA folder from C:\tombraider to C:\gog\Tomb Raider 1\TOMBRAID. From the latter, delete tomb.exe and rename either tomb3dfx.exe or tombub.exe to tomb.exe, depending on whether you want to play the original with music, or UB.
Now you can simply run TR1 from the shortcut created by the gog installer. If you want to save space, you can delete all of the mp3s and game.gog from the TR1 folder as they will no longer be used. Of course you can also uninstall the version you donwloaded from Tomb Raider Hub above.

Thanks for this! I could never get that installer to work with my disc version of TR1, but using your method it seems to work great with the GOG version. I've only played through the first level, but so far it's working fine.

It's so strange hearing the music, I've always had the PC version of TR1 so I've never heard it before. Only problem is that I'm halfway through TR1, and of course now I'm going to have to start over from the beginning...

Delete game.dat from c: \ Gog \ Tomb Raider 1 and rename tombeng.cue to game.dat.

It is the sentence which I did not get to have done as it says but it does not?

Help me. It is possible I did not realize this but I cant not do it.

It would be very good if someone had shown a picture of it. It had been a great help or a video.

Heh. I remember playing TR1 on my old 486, the music came from the CD itself, as music tracks but it is sure nice to hear then without having the CD in the drive.

When you say the game featured no music for the PC version, does this also refer to the main menu music?

Or was that always part of even the PC version?

I tried doing what OP suggested, but the game kept closing itself and wouldnt run.

So i then patched the game with GOG's patch (after doing op's suggestion), reinstalled the games, (AFTER the patch) and the game runs fine. The opening music plays.

But i'd prefer not to continue if this music was just normal for the pc version, and i'll be playing the rest of the game without music at all.

I never played Tomb Raider 1 so i don't have the benefit of hindsight to know how the game should have sounded. What music 'should' play when going through the first level? Tell me what I should be listening out for to know the music is working (that is unless, if the main menu music is playing then, it IS working)

Aplogies for coming across as confused. I've tried to get this game running so many timed before GOG's release and i'm buzzing off the fact i might be able to play through these games.

I'd only ever played TR2 & 3 on Playstation, but i never got far cus they were too scary. Time to be a man, yo.

The title music should play fine.

As far as I know the music has always been in the game. I bought a copy of TR1 long, long ago and it did have the ambient music playing off the CD. I don't know if it was working if the game was run off the CD via DOSBOX tho.

I haven't run into that, even when I messed with the install before patching with the autopatcher.

That background noise, and the title music, has always been included with the PC version. What this thread is talking about is the extra music that was included with the PlayStation version, and was left out of the PC version.

For example, compare these two videos of the same scene.

First the vanilla PC version:

You need to use the installer to get the music in the second video.
