Hi everyone,

We have just added a Windows patch and new Mac and Linux installers (plus Tarball archive of course), which bring This War of Mine up to version 1.2.

This update adds a brand new shelter, from now on, each time you begin your story, you'll have a chance to start in the new building. You now also have the choice of the starting group of characters.

In addition, this update includes the following:

Improvements and tweaks:
Some locations were enhanced
Some animations were improved
NPC behaviors were improved

Fixes and balancing:

Fixed screen resolution and refresh rate detection problem, which caused black screen and / or computer freeze on Windows
Fixed black screen issue on Linux and OSX 10.6.8
Improved game stability based on crashdumps sent by players
Fixed a bug with blocked container icons in the shelter
Fixed a bug with blocked access to crafting menu (icon disappearing or not responding)
Fixed a bug with the civilian becoming stuck in cover after being shot
Fixed a bug with wrong number of civilians in the shelter simultaneously
Extremely exhausted civilian will now lay on the floor instead of standing blocked after returning from scavenge
The civilian who went to help neighbours on the last day of the war will now have a proper description in the epilogue
Crafting cancel will return some of the resources now
Civilians or NPCs should no longer pass through closed doors during a fight
Eating Raw Food and Vegetables together is now equal to eating a cooked meal or canned food
Quality Rollups price was fixed

Thanks and enjoy!

Thank you. =) It would be really nice if you could post links to the updates posts in the informal 'what has been updated' thread in the general forum, the way Judas normally does it. Makes it easier to check what's going on with everything in one place, especially since the update flags for the specific files are no longer working.

This update is so timely for me as I'm just finishing up my first playthrough -- can't wait to see the alternative shelter and with customizing start-up characters, I can keep my little ragtag band of survivors. =P I wonder if the bug with the wrong number of civilians in the shelter simultaneously is related to having a group of five characters... I thought I had the food situation all worked out but it got to be problematic when Emilia turned up.
As someone who is newly exploring this fantastic game yet was reading the patch notes due to technical issues, I wonder if you might be careful about your wording regarding spoilers, in future patch notes?

It's not the sort of thing that immediately seems like a spoiler, but in a game built around a bleak, hopeless atmosphere in which no end is readily in sight, revealing that there is indeed a finish to the war within the game's scope detracts from the atmosphere and the sense of discovery while you're playing. I am very early in the game, though, and it could be that as I progress this information will seem trivial. But all I can do is give my opinion as I see things at this moment.

Anyway, I don't mean to whine or exaggerate. It's not a big deal. It's just that even seemingly small things can look like big spoilers when you're newly experiencing something, and I'm just sharing my thoughts on that.

Is there a specific reason why we are still at 1.2? The steam version has been updated to 1.22 over a month ago. I am tired getting on shotted by guys with a puny pistol while wearing Helmet+Vest.

You too, eh?

Can we please get this updated. There's an important fix that stops people being instakilled (which is infuriating). It's been quite a while and the time delay is bordering ridiculous.

What you said. Please GOG, ask 11-bit Studios for the update.
Really want to buy this on GOG but not if the devs are not bothering to update the game here, especially when it's a vital bug fix!

I fully understand that Steam usually gets patches first, but update 1.2.2 (there) was nearly three months ago! What's the hold-up?

I see that the Humble Store version is only on 1.2 as well.

Can we please get an answer form them on this?

Blue text.
Was ready to purchase the game until reading this thread, and then the "Blue test" link above.

Seem Steam got the patching needed and then to not send it this way they call the last patch "Steam-specific".

I do not buy that at all. It seems they just want to use the Steam client to distribute their patches.

I will pass on this game, it seems forever if no 1.2.2 patch is coming to gog.
Mine says 1.4

When will we have the latest update?

4.0.0 of This War of Mine is a really bugged release:
Problems with pathtracking when interacting with children
Crushing when changing audio source with for example headphones
Leaking content from Father's promise to main game
etc...

Would be good to have simultaneously releases with Steam.

I've sent the developers an e-mail a couple days ago. Their answer is pretty much this:

"The GoG version is still being worked on, we would like the next patch to have some additional fixes, hence the delay. Please stay tuned for the release. :)"

Thanks for sharing this info! But this whole thing with GOG's outdated games versions is so annoying :-(
In the meantime, it would be nice if GOG allows us to download a less buggy pre 4.0 version. I have no idea if GOG Galaxy users can do that, but a lot of people don't use GOG Galaxy (for example, in Linux, which together with the non-DRM is why I use GOG in the first place).
