SOLUTION:

its possible to run dx11 game on dx10 graphics card
you have to download the Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 or Windows 8 and you have to install this on your pc

after installing this you have to search the dxcpl.exe from your windows searchbox
in dxcpl.exe you have to add witcher3.exe (edit list --> add --> your directory to witcher3.exe)
below, activate the "force WARP" and set the level 11_1

after that, I was able launch and start the game
Hey, I'm suffering from the same issue.

My 270X was defect and I had it traded in for a R9 380 which arrived today. Meanwhile I switched to W10 x64 and installed the newest AMD drivers available.

When I tried to start up Witcher 3 it'd immediately exit and log a EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION.

After I attempted the FORCE WARP as explained above the game started up correctly. Funnily enough it didn't even matter whether I chose 11_0 through 12_x - as long as I forced any DX version the game would start.

However, the game is unplayable regardless of graphic settings. The HUD kills my FPS. When I load a savegame I'm sub 1 FPS. When I hit the 'Recale HUD' option in the options menu the performance goes south so hard it's not even funny. Has anyone had familiar issues/experience?

@Erbsenbrei ... Why ' Force Warp ' use, a 'R9 380'-Card is already a DX11 capable graphics card. And the game itself is written not for DX12 ... Now with one ' R7 270 X' or a 'R9 380', you need install only the graphics card, turn on the computer and easy to start the game.

To 'Win 10' and 'AMD'-driver I can't tell anything ...

Please I need help. Can't run the game right after I patched it to 1.08.3_2.0.038.

1.06 seems to be working perfectly fine. Can't play 1.08 :(

I picked up Hearts Of Stone DLC the other day and it constantly crashes.

I haven't played in months and had very little crashes with the base game.

Specs

I3-3240 3.Ghz
R9 270 2GB OC
8GB Ram
Windows 10

(Now using AMD's latest driver, was crashing on previous driver also)

It seems to stutter a lot more than i remember, have everything either low or medium now.
Using things like MSI AfterBurner seems to cause it to crash quicker, same with Radeon or simply using RiviaTuner to lock the game to 30fps.
Running just the game seems to run a bit longer but it feels like it's running really slow and then ''poof'' closes to desktop.

Same Crash log as others have with ''error reading location'' etc
Very frustrating

I was suffering with the same issue... but i tried some thing and the solution just clicked.. and i am able to play now... not sure it will work for everyone..

i followed the following steps:

1. Uninstalled GOG client.
2. Restarted system.
3. Started the game using the exe in the game folder (The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64\witcher3)
4. Reset all the graphics setting to lowest (i made resolution also half hd)
5. The game was launching earlier also but was crashing while loading the save, so start new game.
6. Play new game for 5 mins, then make the setting again to high or ultra as earlier.
7. while playing the new game press escape and load the earlier saved game. It should get loaded easily. After loading the game move away from the current area like building or character you were talking to and save the game again in new slot.

I hope this solution will work. Generally i don't post anything but i understand how much this game matters to us fans. Hope all the fans will be able to complete this awesome series.

I have the same issue, the game starts and it's like 0.4 FPS. MSI Afterburner shows 0% GPU usage, this is with Force WARP enabled, but if disabled, then the game doesn't start's :(

Could you resolve it?

hi i had to do that and it run , but there is anyway to configure the game to run it with lower resources? i am using an i5 4gb intel hd 4000 but it is imposible to play way to low fps

Debug Information
for all these guys with nvidia cards

I have a geforce gtx 970 evga acx 2.0 (over clocked boost from producer)

and with this card it crashes randomly ... gog or steam version == the same

BUT


after down-clocking / underclocking my video card to normal values (without boost)

it doesnt crash anymore

it runs a bit slowlyer BUT it runs

Daisetsu: Will we ever get a fix for this? The game runs pretty flawless for hours, until I start (re-)loading savegames or use fast travel. That's when the crashes happen.
Solution for me -

UNINSTALL GOG Galaxy

Locate Game from C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64\witcher3.exe

(create shortcut to Desktop) Run Game from the .exe

I am now able to play (again)
